That sample in the trailer actually sounds quite promising.

I Spotified "Live in Finland" to see if I was really, truly sure about whether I'd want to miss the band live or not. Good god, everything about that guitar player sounds awful. He's sloppy, his tone stinks, etc.

Elias is just as good as Jani (if not better), but his tone is pretty lacking - I guess that makes him SA's Mangini :lol Live in Finland also suffers from a flawed mix overall and doesn't give a good representation of their actual live sound.

Yeah, Live in Finland has pretty terrible production I think.

I'm very excited about the new album now and preordered it already. Those track titles, though. Blood? Love? Seriously? I thought Shitload of Money was the worst Tony can come up with, but there are strong contenders on this one.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I'm not a fan of Elias at all.  He's a good guitar player, his solo stuff is pretty good, but he just doesn't do it for me in SA.  Also, the production of that live DVD didn't help.  The production absolutely ruined it.

I saw SA the last time they came to the US and I think his guitar tone isn't really good live in general, especially on Don't Say A Word. Speaking of Live in Finland I thought the 2nd CD of that release was better than the main show both production wise and performance wise.

Yeah, I wish the full open air show would've been included on the DVD, because the mix is better and the atmosphere seems great. Maybe the fact that Elias' guitar wasn't working on Tallulah (the solo is overdubbed on the CD) had something to do with the lack of material from that show...

I'm not a fan of Ellias at all either. For me the band went backwards when he joined.
A lot of the magic that the band had with Janne on guitar, left with him.

Looking at the tour dates for their US leg of the tour, I find it quite surreal that the first US show is literally at the next town away from me...unfortunately it seems as if this show's not an all ages show. Oh well, looks like I'll see them in NYC instead.

Mexicali Live Isn't all ages? Hmm I thought it was. I saw Alestorm there recently and I thought that show was all ages. But I shall be there if you end up being able to go.

To be honest, I'm not sure if it isn't, but it's one of the few shows on the link to SA's pre-sale tickets that doesn't have the disclaimer that says it's an all ages show.

iTunes is an abomination. I hate it with every fiber of my being. My insides burn with all the rage of hell and it's host just when I hear the cursed name of "iTunes".

I'm mostly kidding. :lol

If you're speaking about for downloads and stuff, I have no idea, since I've never used it for that. As a music player/browser/container though, it leaves a lot to be desired. Things often don't sort right, and iTunes is determined to "help" you, which means "do everything for you the way you don't want it done", and frankly it gets on my nerves.

I like iTunes, but I have an iMac, it works for me  :metal
At least it's nowhere near as bad as Windows Media Player, I hated that when I had a Windows machine.
The only bad thing I see in iTunes, is the prices, at least in Australia are a rip off and in many cases nearly as much or more than an actual CD.

Yeah, but Deathaura has like a million different parts and this one isn't exactly a prog epic :P

The first(?) listening session report has been posted (in Finnish): https://kaaoszine.fi/sonata-arctica-pariahs-child/

A short summary of all the songs:

The Wolves Die Young: Strong single candidate, catchy chorus and melodic guitar solos

Running Lights: Major key-driven song with flashy solos, but not very fast

Take One Breath: Begins with a piano intro, relatively straightforward despite not having a traditional structure

Cloud Factory: Another cheerful song; the interlude features acoustic guitars and clapping

Blood: Very melancholy compared to the previous song; one of the proggiest on the album

What Did You Do in the War, Dad?: One of the most diverse songs, includes many tempo changes yet doesn't fall apart

Half a Marathon Man: Sounds like hard rock, begins and ends with the same acoustic theme

X Marks the Spot: Fast song (yet not old-Sonata-fast) with interesting vocals

Love: The only ballad

Larger Than Life: A bombastic epic with string arrangements and mood changes; the writer thinks it's on par with The Power of One

According to the summary at the end, the album isn't as "back-to-roots" as you may expect, as even the more power metalish songs include tempo changes and in a few tunes like X Marks the Spot Tony and co. go outside their comfort zone. Nevertheless, the writer expects old-school fans to like this more than the previous albums.

So what is Half a Marathon Man about? Some fan on Sonata's forum suggested it's about the man who ran a marathon but gave up after the half of it. Doesn't sound convincing at all! Maybe it's about a marathon runner, probably in medieval times, who has been chopped in half with battle axe? Any ideas?

I didn't really like vocal melodies in samples' verse, maybe they'll grow on me when I listen to the full song in context of the album.

No idea, but it'll probably make sense when the album is released and you get to hear the song and read the lyrics.

I forgot to comment on the report... I have to say I'm not crazy about happy songs, but it seems that this time there's more proggy stuff than on SGHN and that pleases me :tup I do listen to a lot of straightforward music, but IMO Tony's writing is at its best when he doesn't take the most conventional road.

You pervert...

Seriously though, the theory that it's about someone who takes on a challenging task (i.e. a marathon) yet has no power/desire to finish it sounds most plausible.

It does! If you gave it to me as an unreleased bonus track from the RN-era, I would have totally fallen for it, and I know my Sonata.

The only part of I Have A Right that I liked was the part where Tony screamed "I'M NOT YOU!". That was awesome. I can do without the rest of it.
