Done. I usually update the title to include the latest news, if there is any.

Also, I'd be up for running the survivor if I weren't currently doing the Genesis one. And after that I'm starting the Symphony X one. Anyone else interested in running it?

Fix'd.

I could run it if I had more experience. It isn't probably difficult but I think I should leave it to someone who's better at running survivors.

It's not difficult. Just look at the ones currently running and follow the model.

Well, I can run it. I'll start it in August.

I'm a big fan of Sonata.  Silence was one of my first power metal albums, I love it.  My least favourite album is the horrible Days of Grays.  That didn't click with me at all.  Unia on the other hand is an absolute gem!!  Damn fine album!!

I think every track from Under Your Tree on is some of their the most creative work ever. The first four tracks are o.k., and In Black and White is pretty  :metal

Cool, I'll try and get on that tomorrow.  Figured I'd give 'em a listen because I liked their "Die With Your Boots On" cover.

If it's your first experience with them, it will be strange to listen to that album. It is definitely their most progressive work, and my personal favorite, but most people start with either Silence or Reckoning Night.

If this cover is your only experience with the band, check out Silence, Ecliptica and Reckoning Night first then work on to Unia, it's really like nothing they've ever done before, so it's not really an album to start with.

I don't get people saying SA are cheesy. Of all the big-name POwer metal bands, they might be the least cheesy imo. The lyrics are full of irony, humor and tongue-in-cheek. And I love Tony Kakko's voice.

Listening to Caleb from Unia right now.

It's pretty cool, sounds like Redemption in a way.

OK, the song just did a crazy shift in style, no more Redemption likeness.

Fake edit: OK. I like this junk, yo.

Real edit: Now there was some sort of Ayreon soundalike.

I like this music, though.

Paid In Full is a good track

Actually pretty much all of Unia is win.

Have we ranked Sonata Arctica albums yet? :neverusethis:

Reckoning Night
The Days of Grays
Unia
Silence
Ecliptica
Winterheart's Guild

They're all phenomenal though :metal

There was a time when I would have thought that too. But now I just don't know what to think of those albums. TDoG is not a consistently great album, and Wcliptica is not as inspired as their other albums.

I look at it this way.  Ecliptica was the debut and they were very young, and an incredible debut it is.  Days of Grays just seemed liked the band wanted to try and continue pushing the style they did on Unia on purpose, but really, it's too much.  Unia is special, the band will never ever recreate something like that.  Days of Gray was a very poor imitation.

Also, Elias really hasn't helped their sound.  Jani wasn't the best guitar player in the world, but he really formed the bands sound.  That presence really is lost on the new one.  Elias is a great player, but just hasn't filled the void yet.

There's a great mix of sounds on the album that makes it awesome to listen to

Silence
Unia
Winterheart Guild
The Days of Grays
Ecliptica
Reckoning Night

This is a very consistently satisfying band, as all of their albums have been really good. And I feel they still have lots of tricks up their sleeve.

This was very tough as each album is great! Ecliptica used to be my favorite but nowadays I rank it the 4th.
