Bump

Got my tickets earlier this week.

Also, Tony said that they'll be bringing out Deathaura this tour. Sweet. Hope they follow it up with TLAG :metal

New Sonata Arctica fan.

I heard the song I Want Out on Pandora and I know it's a Helloween cover (although I never heard the original), I really enjoyed it.  I've had Unia for awhile, but it really took a long time to grow on me.  I am anticipating some good music to listen to from this band in the future.

Is Unia the only album you have?  I really like it, but it's different from their other stuff by miles.

As possibility the biggest Sonata Arctica fan on these forums, I thought I'd appear long enough to say the the new album (I use the word "new" loosely) is fantastic. Deathaura and Zeros ftw

Unia is the only album that I have. I've listened to the others, and I honestly dont really like them (including their latest). Unia I like for the most part though.

I absolutely cannot stop listening to 'Flag In The Ground.'  I put it on a progressive metal compilation for my car, and now I just play it all the time -- to the detriment of much of the rest of the cd.

My step-brother's band toured with them a lot, but I can't seem to get into them. Maybe I haven't listened to stuff deep enough int their catalog, but it's too power-metallish for me (yes I know they're power metal).

The past two albums have not been that power metal, actually. They're getting more progressive, if anything.

And never discredit a band because of generalizations of the genre. I typically dislike power metal, but I really like Sonata Arctica.

I listened to a good chunk of their stuff and couldn't get into it, I didn't just say "They're power metal, I don't like them." I like some power metal like Iced Earth and Sacred Oath, and then kinda enjoy DragonForce and Stratovarius, and Sonata Arctica seems to over-the-top for me. Too bad my step-brother's band broke up because I would be able to go backstage and meet them and stuff.

:lol Oh well, hold on, Imma give them another listen now and tell you what I think.

EDIT: Upon listening to bits and pieces of a bunch of their songs, I came to the conclusion that the guy's voice is what's throwing me. I just don't really like it (just like most other power metal bands).

I actually really like the singers voice.  One of the reasons I started listening to them is because of the song that Tony sings with Epica.  I don't liek the song that much, but I really like Tony's vocals.

Ok now that I'm not tired as all hell.... Concert was awesome. The band has excellent chemistry and Tony and everyone else was spot on. Apart from some missed lyrics in Juliet and a briefly dead keytar, everything was damn near perfect.

Here's the set:

1. Everything Fades To Gray (Intro)
2. Flag in the Ground
3. The Last Amazing Grays
4. Paid In Full
5. 8th Commandment
6. As If The World Wasn't Ending
7. Fullmoon
8. Juliet
9. Black Sheep
10. Broken
11. The Dead Skin
12. Henrik key solo/Elias guitar solo
13. The Cage

Encore:

14. In Black and White
15. Don't Say A Word
16. Hava Nagila/Everything Fades To Gray

Badass

I'll post some pictures when I get home from work

I've noticed over the past 3 or 4 years that they don't play anything off of Reckoning Night except for Don't Say A Word.

It's a good song.

But yeah I was surprised at the lack of Reckoning Night

I was expecting Deathaura because Tony said they were gonna play it but I guess they skipped that this time around. The Dead Skin was great though :metal

Tony is a pretty funny guy. He kept trying to talk to us about some random shit and it was awesome :lol

Pics are busy uploading to Photobucket right now. It'll be a few minutes :P

I absolutely love that venue. It's extremely intimate and there is NO bad position. I saw Symphony X there back in 2008 and had the same experience. Also, the guy who works the sound booth is really good at what he does. The mix was near perfect and it wasn't destroying my ear drums :tup

I don't know if this is a regular complaint against Sonata Arctica, and I'm not saying this to get a reaction, and I respect that people like them, but...

They just seem very cheesy. The music's great, but the vocals and lyrics just put me off a bit because they seem cheesy almost to the point of parody. Again, I apologise if this is said a lot, and I'm not saying they suck or anything.
