OMG, a blend between Sonata Arctica and X-Files? Absolutely wonderfulness!

I really love Sonata Arctica. I only have Ecliptica and The Days of Grays though. What is a good album to get next? Obviously you all have different opinions, but I think I could probably like anything these guys do, so what is a general consensus as to what their better albums are?

Well, I'm a bit biased  :lol

But I think most would agree that you should go for Silence next, then Reckoning Night. I personally am in love with the album Winterheart's Guild. Some would say you should not get Unia, but I think you might like it as it's just a tad different from The Days of Grays.

Alright, I've given the new album a couple of spins and I've got to say The Dead Skin is, aside from being the best song in the album, one of SA's best songs ever. It's very experimental, the chord progressions are amazing, Tony's screams are stellar and the chorus is catchy as hell. I really didn't know what to think of Deathaura at first (When I first listened to it I was like HOLY CRAP, LOADS OF LYRICS! But then I realized it was modern SA we were talking about... :D)
This album is far more experimental than Unia ever was, but there were some pleasant surprises found in here. Zeroes was pretty fun, As if the World wasn't Ending and Breathing are a couple of cute and gorgeous tracks and Deathaura is just insane.

I'm going to have to scour some sites so I can find the 2 disc version for under $40.

I just saw them do their own headline show in CT about a month ago, if they came back I wouldn't even hesitate to go. They are one of the few bands that I realllly love to see.  Such a great fun band live.

I might hit the Philly show. I would like to go partly because it's the first show and that would be cool.

Yeah! It's on the second disc on the 2 CD version.

Wait....can I send you the song to sample over the Zune social? I've only ever shared within range of other Zunes.

It all has ended, the clock's rewinded.
We don't mean anything to me. You think?
I killed this silence for you to end the night
The words are loaded

Unprotected, one torso, no head
One valid reason, the life's suspended
If love's the neck that kept us together, and apart...
Now it's broken...

There's no cast, no real solution
When it is broken, it will stay that way
Believe me when I say this
I would not if I did not care

I fucking love that song.  :metal :metal

Hey Fanica, the link you tried to send didn't work, but thanks anyway, because I got it elsewhere.

And it's awesome

And yes, The Dead Skin is pretty awesome

I think The Last Amazing Grays and Zeroes are tied for first for me, followed by Deathaura, Flag in the Ground, Juliet, As If the World Wasn't Ending, and Everything Fades to Gray (both, but I think I prefer the Instrumental one)

Can't wait to get SA tickets :metal

WOAH! I get to see Sonata Arctica in Portland, Oregon on 4/20?! That's amazing!!!
I'm so happy that I finally get to see them on a headlining tour.
The new album took awhile to grow on me but now I'm absolutely hooked on it. I especially love the songs The Last Amazing Grays, The Dead Skin, Zeroes, No Dream Can Heal a Broken Heart, Everything Fades to Gray, and Juliet.

I'm more of a prog fan than a power metal fan, should I still start with the earlier albums (Silence) or should I get the latter albums when they were more "proggy"?

If you want an excellent mixture of power and prog, go for Reckoning Night. You could easily find a video of the single "Don't Say a Word", which is fairly progressive metal.

They only really start getting prog from Reckoning Night on. Some more recommendations: Caleb, Deathaura, The Last Amazing Grays, My Dream's But a Drop of Fuel for a Nightmare, Misplaced, White Pearl, Black Oceans

Nope I haven't got tickets yet. I looked on the Palladium's website but it isn't up yet.

I just watched "Don't Say A Word". Really cool song, love the chorus/vocals overall. The keyboardist's "stage presence" kind of scared me a bit though. :lol

I'll check out some more of the recommendations tomorrow. One of my friends is a big Sonata fan so I'll be going with him

I still haven't picked up the new album. Otherwise, I have all of them besides Winterheart's Guild (most because people say The Cage and Victoria's Secret are the best songs from it and I don't like either of them. At all). But great band, and if the new one delves further in the direction Unia was headed I'm sure I'll love it (Unia was brilliant... Black & White, Caleb, The Harvest...).

How are they live?

For anyone interested, Sonata are Reissuing their EP Takatalvi for less than you can get the original for, and with more rare tracks.
