My Can I Play With Madness Drum Cover
« on: February 26, 2012, 09:02:18 PM »
Hey guys, this is my drum cover of Iron Maiden's "Can I Play With Madness"

It's not perfect but what my drum teacher gave me it as a project, the project was to take a song that you basically know just by listening and never really played through before, and go home and play it, video tape it and put it on youtube for the world to see. He said his method behind this is so that you can kind of visualize where you went wrong during the song. I think I did fairly well, but I definitely could've been a bit more precise in some sections, but overall it wasn't bad

What do you guys think? :D

It's not bad. The timing and fills are what needs the most work here.

Next time, don't put the song itself in the background; just use a MIDI without drums. Listening to this was confusing as hell by virtue of there being two drummers.

Also, don't bother with these silly Youtube "copyright statements". They do absolutely nothing.

I'd suggest spending more time playing with a click track.

And Nicko would be mad you use a double pedal. :lol
Joe and I in the same squad is basically the virtual equivalent of us plowing a rape van through an elementary school playground at recess.

Not a bad video, dude.

While your timing isn't perfect (that comes with time), your playing is looks very smooth. Seems like you're building a solid foundation.

Keep it up.

Good stuff, man. One thing I suggest doing to improve timing is to buy a metronome (usually about 15-20 bucks on amazon or you can get an iphone/ipod touch app for about $2) and practice with that, just playing a basic drum part with fills until it gets really solid timing-wise. Then ramp it up, play at a faster tempo, a more complicated beat, more complicated fills. It really helps.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Timing is definitely in need of improvement, and I will work hard on it. Glad to see some positive words on here though :)
