So, I listen to my music at work. After two years, of essentially the same music, I need to change it up. I've got a load of money on iTunes gift cards, so I can accept new artists I don't have. Anyway, here is what is on the phone. Bolded is they aren't leaving my phone.

Andromeda - Manifest Tyranny (I have had all of the albums. Extension of the Wish may work it's way back)
Cascada - Selected songs from Evacuate the Dancefloor, Every Time We Touch, Original Me and Perfect Day
Cynic - Carbon-Based Anatomy
Dream Theater - Studio discography+Live at the Marquee (A Dramatic Turn of Events, Images and Words, Awake, Falling into Infinity)
Gentle Giant - Studio discography+Playing the Fool (Octopus, Free Hand, The Power and the Glory, Gentle Giant)
Gordian Knot - Emergent and s/t. I'm tempted to take it off, but I fucking love both of these albums. They're so awesome, but I don't want to overdo it. Which I probably already have
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Soundtrack - it's fun
Iron Maiden - Select songs from Brave New World, The Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Piece of Mind.
James LaBrie - Static Impulse
King Crimson - Discipline, ITCOTCK, In the Wake of Poseidon, Three of a Perfect Pair
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Select songs from Let's Face it
The Police - A greatest hit's I got as a gift. It's good, but I could do with a break from them. Or put on actual albums (Synchronicity maybe?)
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet (album) and The Blind House and Time Flies
Riverside - Anno Domino High Definition and Rapid Eye Movement
Rush - Tom Sawyer, Limelight, YYZ
Spock's Beard - Thoughts, Edge of the Inbetween and The Emperor's Clothes

Dream Theater, Gentle Giant and King Crimson take up the most space on my phone. So, here's what I'm thinking...

basically, if it wasn't bolded, it can go. I need a break from progressive at the moment. Those bolded albums I would never need a break from.

Suggestions?

edit:

I'm not as huge into metal as I once was. I'm more into rock (hence all the prog stuff). I guess the more rock oriented the better. I really only dislike Country music and some more extreme forms of metal.

A brief description of the type of music the band you're suggesting would be HUGE

What the library looks like now:

The Agony Scene - The Darkest Red
Between the Buried and Me - Alaska
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Cynic - Carbon Based Anatomy
            Traced in Air
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Darkness - Permission to Land
DJ Sammy - We're in Heaven and Time After Time
Dream Theater - Awake
                           A Dramatic Turn of Events
                           Falling Into Infinity
                           Images and Words
Five Iron Frenzy - Our Newest Album Ever
Gentle Giant - Free Hand
                       Gentle Giant
                       Octopus
                       The Power and the Glory
Haste the Day - That They May Know You
John Coltrane - Body and Soul
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
Pendulum - In Silico
Pillar - Broken Down: The EP
Where Do We Go From Here
Rick Ross - Every Day I'm Hustin' (A fucking MUST!)
Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos
System of a Down - Toxicity

I feel like I have a lot of metal/hard rock. I need a bit more rock and maybe another jazz album so Coltrane is balanced. Bitches Brew or Kind of Blue? This makes me happy. I think I could get used to this

It's hard to tell beause they change their sound after every album. :lol It's one of the best band around though. :tup

Ryzee

Amplifier.  Very cool modern prog band that Zantera hipped us to in his top 50 thread.  I think you'd dig them based on your op- they're proggy and get heavy but not too heavy.  Very 70's kind of vibe.  The proggy is like Floyd/early Crimson proggy and the heavy is like Sabbath heavy.  They have a sweet double album called The Octopus which is only 9.99 on itunes.

Check out Ambassadors, Happy Body Slow Brain, and A Great Big Pile of Leaves. All great indie rock bands.

Try before you buy (because listening to them is much better than me trying to explain what they sound like):

Ambassadors These are four singles from their first LP Litost, there is also a an EP.
Happy Body Slow Brain - Dreams of Water It's their only album thus far and I love it.
A Great Big Pile of Leaves Here you can download their first LP, Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex? as well as their first two EPs for free.

What are you doing with only 3 Rush songs?

Maybe you're not tired of progressive rock, but maybe you need some new shit.

Besides needing more King Crimson and Rush albums, try:

Yes
Phideaux
The Flower Kings
Umphrey's McGee
The Tangent
Return To Forever
Brand X

Nekov

Dude you're crazy. Your list of music is fantastic. But if you want to get away from prog you could get Black Country Communion, both albums are just full of classic rock ala Zeppelin.
Also Chroma Key is a great listen. I'm not sure how to describe it so here's the wikipedia definition "Chroma Key's music is a mix of psychedelia, electronica and ambient, with detailed keyboard sounds and a slightly dark mood."
And let's throw a David Bowie in that mix and you should be done.

Eh, Rush really doesn't do it for me. I enjoy those songs, but meh.

My older brother gave me like 10 Rush CDs he doesn't listen to anymore. I've listened to them a bit.

Don't mean to double post (but I don't fucking care)

I have a shit load of Yes. I've listened to most of those bands, and it really is me needing a change of pace.

Also, Amplifier   :o

I wasn't to keen on Ulver, so I'll have to give them a few more tries.

How do you feel about electronic music?

Well, I like Cascada, Pendulum and Daft Punk.....but that's probably not related.

I'm all ears!

This worked pretty well today. But I need a few more jams to call it good!

Gotcha.

Well, the last 2 are actually jazz-rock/fusion bands, so that is different. And Umphrey's McGee is is a jam band, though proggy.

How about other styles of music like jazz or jazz-fusion, funk, electronic, jam bands, etc..
