One of my all time favorites and a legend. R.I.P. Gary.

He'd been battling cancer for a while.  Part of the 86 Mets game 6 rally.  RIP

What a truly sad day. He was a guy who loved the game and played everyday with the heart of a child. He was pretty damn good, too. Thank God is suffering is over. I'm praying for him and his family.

RIP The Kid

He was before my time but the images of 1986 have been seared into my mind. He made so many fans happy, including my father; I'm sad to see him go.

Before my time as well but he's always been mentioned as being a legend on that 86 team. Kind of a bummer.

I realize many on the board are not old enough to see Carter play, but man he was great in every way. He knew how to fire up his team, and really knew how to handle a young pitching staff. He was a fiery guy, but a god fearing family man. A guy who gave back to the fans. His teammates have said he never swore in all the years they played with him, until he extended the game in game 6 of the 86 series. They said he turned to the first base coach and said, "There was no fucking way I was making the last out of this world series!"
They say he never refused a fan an autograph. He was also very active in the community.
Carter is easily one of the 5 greatest catchers of all time and the best of the 80's.

I saw that comeback game in 92'.

My stepfather bumped into him years after he'd retired on the subway in Montreal with his daughter.
He had good stories.

just a great human.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

I loved Gary! He was everything a baseball player should aspire to be in every way. Truly worthy of role model status.
