If you were to interview a band member, what would you ask?
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:41:03 AM »
Let's say you get to interview one of the guys of your choice.  You can ask 5 questions about whatever you want, and you're guaranteed a straightforward answer.  No question dodging.  You're not a representative of any community, website, or company.  You're a representative of yourself.  What kind of things would you ask about?

I'd interview JP, and ask:

- How do you balance being a touring member of a band and being a family man?
- What are your top 5 DT songs?
- As an adolescent, how did you balance many hours of practice, a social life, and school?
- What is your favorite food?
- What is Metropolis Pt 1 about?!

Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. To James:
-Dear James, why on earth did you cut your hair, say you loved it, and then suddenly grow it out? Because you cutting your hair was possibly the most traumatic thing I've ever had to go through. Including deaths. Yes, even more traumatic then dropping my camera in the water the day before my birthday after my mom specifically told me NOT to get it wet. And everything else traumatic that has ever happened to me. More traumatic then all of those.

I would ask JP:

When you were writing Awake, how did you come up with the ides of incorporating different parts of the songs in other other songs. I think that is one of the coolest things they have ever done, and I never hear anything about it.

And then I'd ask him to play so fast that my face melts.
So I say to the horse, "why the long face?"....

when you and Portnoy will reunite?
will you do "an evening with" gigs again?
will you release Score in blu ray?
will you release a blu ray from this tour? is there any chance that this blu ray could be recorded in Brazil?

I've always wanted to ask how they go about writing music in the theoretical aspect. I'd probably ask Petrucci or Rudess. What are the common principles used in the progressive genre? Are there any? How much does basic music theory go into what you compose?

JP:  What is Scarred about?
I heard Scarred is about religion, but a lot of the lyrics look like they have to do with marriage.  But '30 years say we're in this together' make it sound like it is a religious thing, since JP was only about 27 or 28 at the time. Could be fictional though.
