I didn't notice anything passive-aggressive about that.

Many musicians speak their minds about how it isn't all about the fast runs and tempos. He was referring to younger drummers who can play circles around MP technically; and how he acknowledges that, but he knows there's more to music than speed (even someone coming from a band like Dream Theater).

He said that as an illustration of how the new generation of drummers is much more advanced in technique than older generations, but still cite him as an influence in spite of having a completely different approach to drumming and less ability that those kids. I really liked his comments about old drummers, new drummers and himself. He was very insightful and honest about it.

There is nothing passive-aggressive about that (and I think that is the most overused expression on DTF).

I'm on the fence whether it was a jab or not. Fact is, there's exactly one drummer in the world who is on record for being able to play the fastest double stroke. That drummer is Mike Mangini.
Had MP just talked about playing at 200bpm in general I wouldn't have thought any of it. But the fact that he specifically mentioned the double strokes makes me wonder.

But MP is friends with MM, and I'm sure is well aware of his abilities. I don't see any jab. Seems to me that MP is quite content with his own playing and can admire other drummers skills as well.
