Bands you used to love and now actively dislike
« on: January 03, 2012, 01:07:50 PM »
I was thinking about this in the shower, and I realized I can't think of any bands that I used to love and now actually dislike. I mean there's plenty of bands I used to be a huge fan of and now don't like/listen to as much as I used to, but I can't think of any cases where I grew to dislike them.

So do you guys have any bands like this?

I'm actually embarrassed to admit that I bought a Milli Vanilli CD.  ::shame::

I gave it away.

I wouldn't say I dislike them, but Metallica made fools out of themselves by releasing doing the Lulu project. They definitely lost some of my respect and their credibility.

Not in the sense that I look back on some of their stuff and wonder how I ever could have liked it.  But in terms of feeling that the band changed at a certain point in time and actively disliking the band going forward, yes, I have a few.  Queensryche and Guns & Roses come to mind in that regard.

But Lou Reed hired them and someone even said that Lou wrote most of the music...you can't say Metallica embarassed themselves just playing on someone elses' record ..

I was going to say Stryper but I guess I really didn't "love" them but only liked a few of their songs.

I can safely say I used to love the Bee Gees and now I actively dislike them.

I almost put them down as well.  But the thing is, while I don't like most of their musical output after the black album, there have been enough bright spots that I am not completely turned off from the band to the point of active dislike.  I just buy what I like and ignore the rest.

Yeah, I definitely meant in the former sense.

Our tastes are remarkably similar.  Big +1 to both of these.

Linkin Park is the only band I can think of that applies. They were the first band I ever got into, way back in 6th grade. I can't stand their music now, but I appreciate them for getting me into music at all.

Every band after Linkin Park, starting with Korn, I still like and listen to on occasion.

The Killers perhaps. (Really liked the first two album, loathed the third)

Otherwise I have plenty of bands who I used to love, but now have a sort of point zero-attitude towards.
Some examples would be Dream Theater and Iron Maiden. While I don't dislike them now, I never really listen to them, except for if they release a new album or something.
But the music does very little for me now, compared to how I felt X years ago.

This. I still dig one song of them though :P
I used to like Theory of a Deadman back then, then I started to listen to everything else that was better. Killswitch Engage as well.

I'll jump on this bandwagon, and add Van Halen to the list.  Honestly, between their turd release of VH III, and their treatment of otherwise loyal bandmates... I couldn't care about them at all.

I just can't think of any band to fit this.  I have more examples of more the opposite...bands I used to reject due to my own narrow mindedness, but now appreciate.

None for me, I don't really understand how you can go from loving a piece of music to hating it... unless it was extremely overplayed, in which case one would normally stop at the point where the music becomes "boring", not continue until they actually hate it.

But I guess I'm not really the kind of person that "moves on" from artists, I still listen to Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, even a bit of Disturbed, and other bands which I have been listening to for quite a few years now, and some still remain as my favourite artists. I take breaks from them sure, but I always seem to revisit them :)

Also I agree with TheSilentHam.

Apart from pop groups I listened to as a really young kid, if I like a band, I will always enjoy their music. There are only two exceptions I can think of, bands I went from loving to finding unappealing in every way.

Cradle of Filth and Porcupine Tree.

And I guess Godsmack, but there were a few okay songs on their debut to just barely redeem them from the utter crap category.

One for me is Evergrey.  Everything after Monday Morning Apocalypse seems so bland to me.  All the vocal melodies sound the same.  It's really sad, because I loved some of their earlier ones.

Metallica is another... it's seems most of us agree on this.

A classic one is Queensryche.  Operation: Mindcrime, Empire, and Promised Land are all unbelievable.  It's like every album after is worse than the one before it!    Some of the stuff from Tribe was cool though.

Maroon 5.  I really liked This Love and the few songs that came after it, but what they've put out in the last year or two has really REALLY turned me off.  Sold out indeed.  That Moves Like Jagger song is absolute shit.

I don’t know what to put here anymore
