Anybody ever order something from a "As Seen on TV" commercial?
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:35:13 AM »
You know the commercials that are usually cheesy and cheap looking? Stupid stuff like the snuggie and the remote control light switch :lol
The commercials that usually indicate something extra is gonna be in for ya if you call within the next 5 minutes.
Well I saw a commercial of something that -in concept- would really made life easier for me, it's called InstaHang, hilarious of course as most names of these kinda products. But I just moved into an apartment and I'm not supposed to make nail holes in the wall and none of the alternatives I found really convinced me.
https://www.instahang.com, is the more probable chance it's not gonna work as they advertise it?

I have yet to see a TV commercial that says "As Seen on TV".

Also: you can't make nail holes but you can use thumbnails?

My parents bought me Shamwow for Christmas last year as a joke gift, but other than that, no.

Was this Shamwow of use to you, or was its name indicative of its value?

Cup, think about that for a second. If its name was indicative of its value, wouldn't that mean it was of use to me?

But no, I actually have never used it. I don't spill things. I'm too awesome to spill things.

https://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sham

Isn't sham a word with a rather negative connotation?

Or am I missing out on an obvious pun/play on words?

You're overthinking it. :lol

Cup, shamwow comes from shammie cloth, not sham.

I didn't buy it from TV, but they sell the same twin draft guard they advertise on TV at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.  It works as it should, but then again it is about the simplest thing out there.  I could make them myself if I had a sewing machine.

I own a George Foreman grill, which used to be heavily advertised on TV. It works quite well. But I waited until it was established as a solid product, years after the initial advertising.

Yeah it seems like these products go through a "Piece of shit/Useful" test some time after they appear on T.V and if they're proven useful they start appearing at Target and Bed Bath & Beyond heh

I have an instyler. It's that flat iron/curling iron.
It's great in a big room with the windows open, not so great in a small room.  :|

I had a mini-sized George Foreman grill.  It has one temperature setting.  FIRES OF HELL.  Worked okay when it wasn't mercilessly burning the smithereens out of something.  As noted, a bitch to clean.

Also have a slap-chop.  Works great.

We had a Veg-O-Matic when I was a kid.  Probably hand-crafted by Ron Popeil himself.  It worked really well.  My mom used it to slice and dice stuff, as this was years before "food processors" were around.  My dad didn't do a lot of cooking, but when he did, he was a boss.  He'd peel potatoes manually, then use the Veg-O-Matic to makes French fries, and they were incredbile.  Thick cut, made from fresh potatoes and cooked in clean, hot oil.  Yeah, baby!

That commercial kills me.  "This thing is the centerpiece of my professional kitchen."  WTF dude, are you doing four dinner covers a night?
