LULU or St. Anger? Which is worse?

St. Anger is about 5 miles beneath the other Metallica records, and Lulu is about 50 miles beneath St. Anger.

The more it ages, the more I love St. Anger. Sure, it's the worst Metallica album of all time (save for Lulu). But it packs tons of energy. That's the most important thing here. In a really f'd up mood I can almost relate to that stuff. The production, well, I actually like it. It sounds pretty damn raw. It has attitude. The album has attitude. It's not so bad after all.

I don't know where you got that impression. It's totally because of the album itself.
Many people dislike it because of the weak repetitive overly drawn out songwriting, the sloppy performances, the off pitch vocals, the awful production, etc. The album does have some good moments, and maybe some of the hate is overblown, but generally the album doesn't get any worse than it deserves.

Seeing as I got into Metallica after St. Anger and still think it's mostly shit.... I'm pretty sure it's the album.

St Anger - Awful production. Mediocre songs. Mediocre riffs ( intentionally ).

Lulu - Great production - Great riffs. Occasionally woeful vocals.


I can listen to Lulu far more easily than St Anger. Almost everything about St Anger is a mess whilst Lulu has decent playing and great sound quality for the most part and I enjoy it for what it is.

I can take Lou's voice apart from maybe a couple of songs where he is just bad.


So Lulu wins.
