LULU or St. Anger? Which is worse?

Both of these albums are pretty much regarded by most fans as Metallica at their worst. One is a proper Metallica album, the other is a collaboration with Lou Reed. Both feature Metallica as the working band, and both are pretty much considered very bad albums. So which one do you think is worse? And why is the other one better?

Frantic, Dirty Window, Shoot Me Again, Sweet Amber, and The Unnamed Feeling are all passable songs. All Within My Hands has potential. None of this adds up to a stellar album, mind, but there are good bits all over.

Lulu.... I haven't even made it through an entire song, excepting Junior Dad. I believe this is what the phrase, "What is this I don't even," was created for.

Lulu by far.

I guess, to be fair, I'd have to actually listen to both albums in full to make a vote.  Unfortunately, both were too awful to soldier through beyond the first track.

St Anger is bad, but it has some passable songs on it that actually wouldn't be too bad if the production wasn't ass.
Lulu has nothing at all to redeem it though. It doesn't even have melodies. It just has an old man warbling out of time.

Gonna buck the trend here.

Lulu is fucking awful, yes. But it's an album masterminded by Lou Reed, who has been becoming musically more and more avant garde as the years have worn on, and there are brief moments on the album where you can hear where something passable can be heard, and I actually LIKE Junior Dad. The odds were always pretty high that this was going to be a disaster, and it's a glorious one

You know what St. Anger is? Metallica putting a mid life crisis on a CD. It's a bunch of men in their 40s desperately trying to be like those hip cool nu-metal kids while at the same time making certain that the album is a sonic nightmare. It's the sound of Metallica's utter contempt for their audience, who was expected to swallow shitty nu metal songs that were two minutes of ideas stretched out to eight as being awesome music. It's Lars Ulrich saying the fans just weren't open enough to understand and like it.

Lulu is an utter disaster, yes. But St. Anger was so wrong headed, in so many ways, that it will forever be the worst Metallica album. By miles.

The only thing wrong with St. Anger is that they drag the songs out too long save a few.  Sweet Amber is fucking amazing.

I guess I'll vote for St. Anger, because I just don't like that album.

Lulu, although far from being a good record, is starting to grow on me. Dragon, The View, Iced honey, Pumping blood... There's something that draws me to these songs, but I can't put my finger on what it is...

I also haven't been able to listen to both albums from beginning to end. St. Anger hast one track I like (Frantic) but the sound is extremely awful to endure. Lulu... well, it's more than sonic torture!!! My vote goes to Lulu. Anyway, to me everything Metallica has done from Load onwards ain't worth listening to.

To be honest, it's just a bit weird having St. Anger WIN a poll for once. :lol

I voted Lulu as the worst. St. Anger had a few good ideas on it and if they'd just taken those ideas in a more palatable direction, we could have had a cracker on our hands. With Lulu being headed by Mr. Reed, it was doomed from the start.

I actually would love for Metallica to revisit St. Anger some day and actually finish the record, clean up the production, and so on. Invisible Kid, Some Kind Of Monster and the title track are like half a song each, spread out to twice the length their respective material actually warrants. I know they have a bunch more material written during that time (I think I remember 2003-era interviews where they said they chose 11 out of 35 or so songs to be on St. Anger), it'd be interesting to see what they could do with it.

And not, y'know, write as they record in the studio. Yeesh.

By the same token, I'd love to hear a version of Lulu with Grandpa Simpson's ramblings digitally removed.
