Don't you guys think the trailer itself is shit? The movie will probably be good but boring trailer.

I have to agree with TJ. That trailer was underwhelming. Still looking forward to the movie, though.

As weird as it sounds, the trailer confirms my excitement that it will stick close to the style of LOTR, but at the same time I found the trailer to be kind of boring in itself.
I'm still just as excited to see it, but this trailer doesn't show much (not surprising at this stage)

Calling it shit is going kind of far. It's a teaser. It introduces all the dwarves and whatnot. The first real trailer will show a lot more. Keep in mind, the second movie will have the big battle if you crave that kind of thing.

I didn't even realize they were this far into completing the movie. Definitely pumped for it, but as others have pointed, it's kind of a weak trailer.

It did exactly what it was meant to do.  It let you know that the movie is coming, it told you who all the main characters are and who was making the film, and how it ties into the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.  Teasers don't give away any of the plot.  I would've liked at least one interesting action shot (giant Mirkwood spiders, maybe Smaug), but since that will be all CG and probably isn't done yet, this is what we get.

Awesome! I am by no means a huge LOTR fan, but I thought they were exciting and inspiring. This looks to be more of the same; not a bad thing, but it won't get me hard like The Dark Knight Rises trailers did. I mean...my dick almost exploded over those. This looks to be a very beautiful movie though.

I loved reading The Hobbit back in middle school and can't wait to see how it'll translate to the big screen!

They do seem pretty far into it, and yet they've still got an entire year until release. It's kind of crazy.

I wonder if they're going for the December release only because that was when the LotR movies were released or if they still have a lot of work left to do on the movie.

@ everyone calling it a shite trailer: they're still filming. I doubt very much footage is in all that complete a state at this point. I'm quite impressed that they can confidently assemble a teaser already. It does what it's supposed to do: remind people who don't follow the movie's progress obsessively that it's out there, and introduce the basic premise and characters.

Also, Gandalf in Dol Guldur??!!?? Does that mean we're getting that in the first movie?

i would have enjoyed it more if i could have watched it on my good computer (which is broken) and not my old one which is sooooooooooooooooooooooo slow its not even funny :-[
The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.

All that computer-generated stuff takes a long time to do.  Also, they're not done shooting, as they're shooting both movies together, the same way they did all three Lord of the Rings movies as basically one long shoot.  They're on break now, and will return in January, but it's not like they finished the first movie now and will work on the second movie next, although it's probably mostly split up that way.

Err... this was definitely not a teaser. A 2 minutes and 12 seconds trailer.

And you know what (not you Orbert, rhetorical question)? It's shit. Let's pretend I haven't read the book. Why am I going to watch this movie? Because there was a successful trilogy before? Well, yeah, maybe that's one reason. But to be honest this trailer was a piece of crap. I don't know what this movie it's going to be about. "Duh, he's telling Frodo a story" About what? According to this trailer it's about how he had a friend that's a wizard and that there are other characters with weird and similar names in it who like to sing, there's a broken sword and a creepy figure whispering "my precious" and that's it. Based solely on this trailer I have no idea what this movie is about or why, despite the nice special effects, I should go and see it. Terrible trailer. That guy who edited it should be fired.

Never have I seen so many butts hurt over a trailer... Something in the water? I mean... I've seen lesser comments made about entire movies being shit...this is a trailer. I need to go back to trailer analyzing school... Damn it.

It's a year off, and it's a FIRST trailer, why would they reveal important info just now?  Also, just because it's two minutes long doesn't mean it can't be a teaser, length doesn't play such a big factor in that.  I also found it charming, the singing was radular.
