6:00
« on: November 30, 2011, 07:31:20 PM »
I don't hear much about this song in this forums, and I really don't know why. Its a pretty powerful opener, and coming straight off of Learning to Live, I think its a pretty good intro to Awake.

I like that its got quite a bit more keyboard in it than most songs, and some pretty cool little riffs involving the keyboards. I really like when it kicks into high gear at around 3:50. Really powerful vocals from Labrie as well.

Any thoughts?

Well, its my 2nd least favourite, only because the rest of the album is so damned good.

I like it better than Innocence Faded.

But its still damned good IMO.

It's a solid little song, but not one of the stronger songs on the album. The obnoxious repetition of samples sort of kills it for me, but aside from that it's catchy enough.

Song: Agree with BVD, though the samples don't kill it for me, despite how annoying they are. Not their best opener, but suffers(?) from being a good song on an otherwise awesome album.

The other day I was reading James Joyce's short story "The Dead" and I was so excited to see the lines from the song's samples that I listened to 6:00 again. It's definitely one of DT's better album openers, and it's one of the best songs on Awake - though I enjoy all of them, so it's hard to choose.

6:00 is one of my all time favorite d.t. tracks.  i've never been bothered by the samples at the beginning of the tune - i'm too busy digging on myung's bass line underneath.  the (wonderfully) notey riff throughout the verses is exquisite, and the crunchy goodness at the chorus is oh so sweet.

The opener on my favorite DT album :) I'm not annoyed by the samples and Kevin did a good job with the lyrics. JP's short solo in the outro is very good too.

Totally awesome song. It has a great groove, and oozes attitude like much of Awake. Great vocals and cool lyrics, and a very ear-catching drum intro. The sample usage is memorable and well done. I'll tell you a song that gets messed up by too many samples: The Great Debate.

6:00 is awesome and I love how many different ways it injects uplifting energy into they fray. You just influenced me into giving Awake its first full spin in well over a year so thank you very much for that Tumdace :tup

On of my favourite from Awake, but the samples do draw from the greatness of it.

If you search around on Youtube you can find an interview where they do the main 6:00 riff before it was a song. It really grooved back then!

Great song, always loved it.  The drum intro is a great moment and sets you up for song and in fact the whole album.
To those who think it's not a great opener i ask you, what would awake have been like if it didn't start with the awesome drums of that awesome song?

I can still remember how this made me feel the first time i heard it.

The samples ruin it for me. One or two would be fine but when they're repeated like that I can't stand it.

Love the groove at the beginning though.

I cannot think of a legitimate reason to hate any one of those things (ok, well maybe puppies because of the feces and slobber). >:(

Love the song. We decided to play it in our band, but only played it once on stage, because it just didn't work live for some reason.
