Round 6: :sadpanda:

6 points

Orcus - The Antlers - Kettering: Dude, I got goosebumps and nearly cried. Now this is what I wanted to hear. The vocal performance, the lyrics, the music... Everything was just horribly depressing... :'( I really need to check out this album/band out if the rest is as depressing as this song.

5 points

Sonata - The Depreciation Guild - A Room, A Canvas: The best thing about this song was probably the lyrics. They were very well written and beautifully imaged a situation that otherwise would've sound cliché (when using the wrong words). painted over, painted over, painted over... I'll be checking out this band, no doubt about that.

4 points

Sigz - Set Fire to Flames - Steal Compass/Drive North/Disappear: A very engaging post-rock piece. The theme repeating sounded like fatality and the tone was so dark and dead... Very depressing. Loved every second of it.

3 points

Nekov - David Bowie - The Loneliest Guy: While I was listening to it I was surprised it came from David Bowie, because it was quite different from what I've heard of him so far. The lyrics were very good. I interpreted them like a man, denying the best he could the horrible truth that he was the only man alive on Earth. Devastating.

2 points

Clairvoyant - Elliott Smith - Angeles: The song was excellent, the only problem I had with it is that the lyrics and their meaning went completely over my head. They didn't connect with me one bit. Too bad really because the song was incredibly good. I'll need to check him out too.

1 point

Raven - Alice in Chains - Nutshell: Kind of the opposite to Seth's entry; The lyrics were incredibly depressing but the music just didn't floored me. It was good but just not as sad as the lyrics, if that makes any sense.

Sigz: 26 points
Clairvoyant: 24 points
Orcus: 24 points
Sonata: 22 points
Raven: 22 points
Nekov: 17 points

PLAYOFFS: How it will work: Sigz gets a bye round. Seth and Orcus will engage in a ferocious battle and the winner will enter the ULTIMATE ROUND against Sigz.

So, Seth and Orcus, send me a song now.

I was inches from sending Nutshell as well, glad I didn't, though I personally love the song.

Gorille I know you said your last.fm was out of date but I'd still like to check it out.

I'll send soon  :tup

Also, in case you're still interested, I think the lyrics are a (largely metaphoric) description of his struggles and complaints with the music scene in general and where they left him.  (Angeles being Los Angeles)  Maybe that makes more sense?

SEMI-FINAL

Orcus - Isis - Threshold of Transformation: I've heard about this band forever yet I've never actually took the time to check them out. Well I'm definitely glad I did now; This was nothing short of epic. I really liked the vocals, the riffs were awesome and the song was just very well-written all-around.

Seth - Have a Nice Life - I Don't Love: I'm not even sure how to describe this song, really. T'was very raw with loads of distortion but at the same time it was quite catchy. And it was heavier than shoegaze. Whatever it was, I loved it very much.

VERDICT --> This one was very close since I loved both songs a lot but I finally decided I liked Seth's entry a bit more.

ULTIMATE ROUND: Sigz and Seth, send me an EP.

ULTIMATE ROUND (EPs)

Sigz - This City Sunrise - This City Sunrise Sings In Unison: Great Sikth-like metal band. I loved how the vocals trade-offs reminded me of Unexpect some time. The music was heavy and ballsy as fuck. The concision of the EP was also a plus in my book.

Seth - Jaga Jazzist - Animal Chin: Super cool mix of jazz and electronica. Just great composition all-around. The mix was excellent too. It was just a great EP, with great music in it. End of the story.

VERDICT --> I enjoyed Seth's submish more. Nice job defeating the defending Champion!! :tup

Thanks everyone for participating in my roulette. It's been a pleasure.
