Words in songs that tell you you can safely ignore that song
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:14:22 PM »
"Honky-tonk". Never heard a song that didn't trigger my gag reflex which had that word in it.

Any other words?

I really can't think of any.  "Fanny," maybe?

Seems kind of silly to me, ignoring a song based on a word.

Doesn't mean the song will always be bad, but when I see song titles that use "Luv" instead of "love", "2" instead of "too/to", etc.... I usually want to punch a baby or five.

So... how many babies did you punch when Rush released "BU2B"?

That song probably gets closed to not being ignored. Still not really that great a song though, IMHO.

Speaking of Dire Straits, I listened to Money For Nothing the other day and was blown away how many times it sports the word "faggot". Jeez!

Yes but Mark Knopfler is recounting an encounter with a guy in a shop who is blasting MTV and all the videos . All the lines in the song were spoken by this one guy he met.

It only says it 3 or 4 times in one verse.  And considering the meaning of the song, it's totally relevant.

I think if anything has been made clear in the past month, it's the rumborak hates music.  All music.  I've seen him shit on lots of bands, but I'd be hard pressed to remember one he actually said something good about.  :lol

There are exceptions, but songs that explicitly sing about loving rock, rock'n'roll or metal are generally shite. So if the genre name is mentioned in a "god, we love that sort of music" way, then it's almost certainly gonna be a bad song.

Also, leather, leather jackets, motorbikes, fast cars, etc... bikie/petrolhead songs are by and large garbage.

Ooh, I love a lot of music. Problem is, it's a bit like the Amazon.com reviews; I will only ever post something if I feel it's really good or really bad. I guess my positive posts get lost somewhere :lol
As examples of new stuff I love:

Grace For Drowning
ADTOE
Heritage

And soo much old stuff I love.

:lol Well, Geddy introduced the song as "Brought Up To Believe", and there is still time for them to officially call it that when they release the full album, so no babies have been punched for that

yet.

I never really form an opinion over a word, but the word "Love" used in a song-title is always sort of a killer for me.
While there are songs with the word that I like, my first thought when I see a song with "love" in the title, I just think of some cheesy power-ballad from the 80's, sung by someone like Bon Jovi, which just makes me shiver.  :\

Rhyming "changing" with "re-arranging".

Or "California" with "warn ya".

One of the first words in the song I'm currently making a music video for. :lol

The only other song I know that uses the word whiskey is Whiskey In The Jar (Metallica), and that's a good song. :tup
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.
