Why is this thing such a drawn-out process btw? I just looked at the primaries schedule, and the first is in Iowa on 01/03, the last in Utah on 07/2.
Even more, why do the states do all of this separately, if it's one Republican party?

The US electoral process is really dumb actually. People in the last states don't really have a say on who gets to go on the ballot. I mean, it might be decided LONG before say North Dakota has any say in it.
