I hate to open a can of worms, but Orchid and Morningrise could use a remaster.

unsure if this is the can of worms you mean, but i really don't think a remastering will help whatsoever (they've had at least one remaster job since being released, it just wasn't billed — i've seen at least two different masters). those albums need to be re-recorded from the ground up; at the bare minimum, the guitars and bass need seriously upscaled recordings. remastering can't make good from shit.

I essentially took remaster/remix to mean a better sound in general, but yes, I agree.  As far as the can of worms goes, certain people here believe that  the sound actually benefits the music, while others disagree :P

Virtually every rock CD released in the 80s that hasn't been remastered, especially from the earliest days of digital recording. So much 80s rock just totally lacks PUNCH in the mastering, and sounds so flat and plastic.

You can almost make the same argument for most 70s rock albums too.

Not really.  I would argue that the average rock album from the 70s sounds better than the average rock album from the 00s.

When mastered properly, easily. Even when not remastered, they still sound better than the overly compressed trebley mess of a lot of recent rock albums. It's one reason I don't enjoy newer rock as much as older rock, even when the songs are good.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

+1 for Vapor Trails.

The one album I would love to see remastered in Fleetwood Mac's Mirage. The 80's CD sounds pretty flat, and it's never been re-done. The Bob Welch era albums sound awful on CD and need a good remastering too.

Death Magnetic could use a LOT less compression and more EQ.

The clips of That Was Just Your Life from the studio before mixing =  :omg: PHAT.

What do you mean by "more EQ"?

Everything s so bland tone-wise. It's like paper. That album does not have much colour.

I wonder how much of that is because of EQ.  It's hard to notice the tonal spectrum of the album when you can't even turn it higher than 0 without it being too loud.  I completely agree that DM needs a remix.  AJFA doesn't sound great but sounds amazing compared to DM.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

John Mayer - Heavier Things. Amazing album, awful mastering.
