Presidiential candidates quiz
« on: November 15, 2011, 06:32:11 PM »
Simple yes/no/unsure quiz on some major issues to see how you agree with, more or less. I think a lot of details get lost in the black/white yes/no, but our two party system does the same, so I think it's rather apt in terms of voting.

https://2012election.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=004491

No surprise I found myself more with Obama than any of the Republicans, but after him it was Gary Johnson (who I forgot was even running), Huntsman and Paul were tied(who has about no chance of winning the election), and then, surprisingly, Santorum at 33%.

I got Paul, then Obama, then Johnson.

I left "unsure" on a fair number of questions which I consider far from binary "yes or no" issues.

I don't place equal weight on the questions though, and for questions like "should federal taxes be raised?" I said "yes" even though I wouldn't nessarily agree on what each candidate would use those taxes for.

I voted lots of "unsures" because, honestly, I don't know.

Same...probably 50% of my answers were "unsure".

For some reason that one about lower taxes incentives for companies seemed more like something that could be actually proved and less of an opinionated issue. Maybe it was the way it was worded.

I didn't vote many unsures, because I certainly do have an opinion,  but they're definitely not opinions that'll get represented appropriately.  For example,  I think Obamacare is bullshit, so I vote that it's a bad thing,  but I certainly don't support the GOP stance on it. Anyhoo,

Huh, not sure what I agreed with Bachmann on (I closed the tab so I can't check). Wish there'd been one more question about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, because that one question does not entirely sum it up, because it's not really about whether there should be a Palestinian state but what the terms are in its creation.

I'm also surprised that I agree with Ron Paul more than John Huntsman. Go figure.

That surprised me too. I don't really identify with a party and usually think of myself as liberal. I think my percentages went out of whack on the abortion, marijuana, and tax questions.

I got the usual, bleeding-heart liberal result, i.e. Obama 83%, Johnson 69%, Huntsman 50%, and of course Pawn Lol at 50%.

So what did you agree with Obama on?

Cause there's only like.. 20% difference between your agreement with Johnson and myself, yet clearly there's a massive disjunct between our political philosophies.

I had never even heard of Johnson up until now (well, I'm on the other side of the globe, so go figure). I take it he's too "moderate" for the GOP, given that he is second in my list?

Bills himself a libertarian Republican I believe. Was the former governor of New Mexico, if I recall correctly (think I was still living ther when he announced, so it was a big deal there).

He was one of the first to announce, and since then, I haven't heard shit about him. Probably because someone like me can agree with him on a lot of issues.

I left "unsure" on a fair number of questions which I consider far from binary "yes or no" issues.

This.

I don't place equal weight on the questions though, and for questions like "should federal taxes be raised?" I said "yes" even though I wouldn't nessarily agree on what each candidate would use those taxes for.

No one else even close. Funny that Romney was last on the list, considering if I could, he'd be my fourth choice (behind Paul, Johnson, Huntsman) of the republican candidates.

This test was pretty bad. But hey, I don't identify with the US so why even care.
