I found it amusing that I finally let you guys go wild on song length and I didn’t receive a single song over 8 minutes!
DTVT: Dali’s Dilemma – Living in Fear (7)
A very interesting track for sure. Sound is a bit muddy on the instruments, but there are elements here that Mason could have very easily guessed I’d love. There are some instrumental bits in this song that had me thinking I was listening to Dream Theater, and that’s never a horrible thing!
Wolf: Dungeon – Under the Cross (6)
I am somewhat familiar with Lord Tim, the mastermind behind Dungeon, but was not familiar with this particular track. It ended up being what I’d expect, vocals as metal as they come and guitar work to match. All in all a strong track from them, but not near my favorite of what I’ve heard.
JB: Harem Scarem – Had Enough Harem Scarem Mood Swings (9)
Loved the opening little guitar bit that reminded me of Joe Satriani, and the rest that reminded me of great Van Halen wasn’t too shabby either. Great guitar led rock, nuff said.
Seth: Martin Grech – Elixir (1)
I have a feeling had I heard this track at the end of the entire album I might appreciate it more, but as it stands I wasn’t too taken by it. It has a great atmosphere, but not much going on to latch on to.
Ytse: Maxxess – Slow Motion (Live) (4)
I can imagine this being a fantastic wind-down track as the hypnotic qualities of the music are amazing, and it certainly is on top of the three tracks submitted that didn’t have too much action in them.
Rich: Nightengale – Better Safe than Sorry (8)
A pretty powerful and anthemic song, it also has a lot of little bits of awesomeness that take this song to a high level. Though the entire song is a good one there is no question the greatest strength lies in a very strong chorus.
Zander: The Birthday Massacre – Nevermind (5)
When this song started I was wondering if Zander had decided to take a dive in order to win a bet that he’d lose the roulette. Song starts with a strong pop edge and a singer that initially sounds like a Robin Sparkles knockoff (How I Met Your Mother reference). Though I don’t think the song is fantastic, it does hit some fantastic sections and I’m able to forget the opening a bit.
PC: Tori Amos – Carry (2)
Two point Tingle is back in prime form people! This is another track that might sound better to me in context, but as is didn’t do too much for me. Nothing much annoyed me, and it was a soft and luscious track, but there really wasn’t too much catching my interest.
Hair: 5+4+0+9+9+8+10+6 +5 = 56
Wolf: 9+8+0+4+4+8+9+3+6 = 51
Mason: 8+7+1+7+2+4+8+7+7 = 51
Rapkins: 6+9+1+6+8+5+5+9+1 = 50
Brit: 4+6+0+3+5+9+2+10+8 = 47
Ytse: 1+5-1+5+10+10+1+1+4 = 36
Puppet: 7+1-1+1+6+6+3+2+9 = 34
Joseph: 2+2-1+2+3+3+6+8+2 = 27
For 2nd place, I ask that both Mason and Wolf send me a track under 5 minutes. You have 3 options on what to send. Either the artist begins with the letter C, the album begins with the letter D, or the song begins with the letter E.
I will listen to each track once and declare who gets silver and who gets bronze in this thing.
