I'm leaving Tuesday night, so please post the next theme when you get a chance so I can send round 7 by your preferred method, after that you'll have to deal with a links unless you want to wait until Jan. 4 or 5.

Well, since I'm a part of the forum again, I'll be happy to still take part in this, even though my chances of winning are zilch. Gimmie an hour or so to send a song.

PC: Jose Gonzales – How Long (6pt)
An interesting start to the round, this track would certainly stand out at the end as the oddest of the bunch. Not for technical wizardly or anything, it’s a rather simple track, and certainly an enjoyable one. Kinda mellow and beautiful, and a tactful choice as it isn’t something that comes full blast to use up the short time.

Rich: Protest the Hero – Termites (2 pt)
I’ve heard a couple of Protest the Hero songs before, and while I was neither disappointed nor blown away I’d say I liked those tracks better than this particular one. It was a decent track I suppose, but neither the music nor the vocals really caught my attention.

Zander: Reflection – Twilight Child (10 pt)
How good of a hit was this? It sunk my fucking battleship. I was not surprised Zander would send me something so good, but I am surprised that he would send something that seemed to familiar to me. There is a lesser known Italian act called Secret Sphere that this reminds me a lot of at times, and in general I could definitely see myself digging this band. Nice piano medleys and a strong chorus top off an overall great track.

Wolf: Seven Tears – Dream of Insanity (9 pt)
Another very strong track with a similar feel to Zander’s in the mood of the song and how it drives forward. Piano medleys are replaced by some other strong keyboards and it is another very strong track overall with a solo almost makes it top Zander.

Seth: Susanne Sundfor - Father Father (5pt)
Another risk taker like PC, but while I enjoyed this tracks beautiful vocals and soft medleys it just couldn’t stand up against some of the amazing submissions from the round.

JB: The Tragically Hip – Fireworks (3 pt)
Certainly didn’t see a song like this coming. Kinda combines a classic rock feel with some other stuff and it took me awhile to decide what to think of the song. There were issues with the sound I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but it was still a fun song with a neat chorus.

Ytse: Unearth – Last Wish (1 pt)
Eek. After winning two rounds I was really surprised when I heard this one. Sending me a track with vocals I’m nearly guaranteed to hate is roulette suicide, and it doesn’t help that I only found it musically mildly interesting at best, though that can be in part because I found it very difficult to focus on the music much.

DTVT: Warrel Dane – This Old Man (8 pt)
I think that most telling thing about this song is after hearing it the first time I had to check to make sure it was under 4 minutes. I think I did that the 2nd and 3rd time too. The song has its powerful moments, but it never seems in a hurry and seems to get a lot accomplished. I really enjoyed the overall feel of this one and very much like the contrast between the two main styles in the song.

Hair: 5+4+0+9+9+8+10 = 45
Wolf: 9+8+0+4+4+8+9 = 42
Rapkins: 6+9+1+6+8+5+5 = 40
Mason: 8+7+1+7+2+4+8 = 37
Ytse: 1+5-1+5+10+10+1 = 31
Brit: 4+6+0+3+5+9+2 = 29
Puppet: 7+1-1+1+6+6+3 = 23
Joseph: 2+2-1+2+3+3+6 = 17

Well, even pulling a "Costanza" and going with the opposite of my gut instinct got me nowhere.  Ah, whatareyagonnado?

Nice guitar riff on This Old Man.  Couldn't find Twilight Child or Dream of Insanity anywhere online.

Opening (especially the keyboard melody) reminded me a lot of For the Heart I Once Had (Nightwish).

Good tune.

Round 7: A Happy Place
Okay guys, what I want is something just like Transatlantic. Music so joyful I can't help but smile. I know TA has a lot of Beatles influence, but oddly I'm not huge into the Beatles. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them, but I'd suggest sending something a little newer. The bigger the smile on my face (usually caused by musical and not lyrical content) the higher you'll likely score.

Edit: Please keep songs under 7 minutes. You'll all get your chance for long songs next round. ;)

Y'all need to come up with something a little more original. Rich did 'happy' a couple of weeks ago. Chef just asked for the same. Chemist and I are just about out of happy songs!

Do you want Transatlantic-like music, or any kind of music that will put a smile in your pants face.

Deathtrain it is.

Happy music is usually crappy music.  That's why there is an entire genre of music called "Blues", and not one called "Sunshine and Kittens".

Well, since I don't consider Transatlantic to be "happy" music, I have no idea what you mean, so you're probably getting Deathtrain.

Fuck it, I remembered a song, but I want to state it is NOT an endorsement for this band.  It's a song my guitar teacher had me learn.

No worries Nick.
I take chances....despite knowing it wouldn't be your thing...that disc makes it into my "highlights of the year" just such good riffage in the new Unearth.

Transatlantic type stuff eh?
I've got lots. The only difference is, it sounds better.

(grin)

also...Jingle....as a Canadian I could have told you that aliens abducted the REAL Tragically Hip sometime after Fully Completely. There isn't a single album after that one that merrits any kind of condisderation. That band sank long ago....with new orleans.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Yeah, I know regarding the Hip.  Frankly, I never really liked much by them anyway, Fireworks being one of the few that I do.  With hockey references, and my 'Costanza' approach that round, that's the reason I submitted that tune.

Still waiting for clarification.  These two things (sounds like TA; joyful music) are not collectively exhaustive.  What I mean, is that joyful music can sound nothing like TA.  So, do you want music that sounds like TA, or do you want joyful, smile inducing music?

TA has a quality to it that just brings a smile to my face. Sections like Motherless Children just ooze musical life and the melodies are so happy and catchy, and that's what I'm looking for.
