Your Top 5 Underrated Songs
« on: November 10, 2011, 01:45:19 PM »
I recently put together my top 15 songs ever, and it got me thinking of what songs I absolutely love that no one I know knows even exists, let alone the band that wrote them.

So here's an opportunity to post your top 5 songs that you think are completely overlooked, and you can interpret that as you like.  I think of it more as from bands that are incredibly unknown that have put out some songs that would be classics if any popular band released them, but you might translate it as a Deep cut from a well-known band that everyone ignores.

Anyway, here are mine in no particular order:

Frost* - The Other Me
Devin Townsend - Funeral
Spoiler - Electrifying
Slaves To Gravity - Heaven Is A Lie
Heaven's Basement - Magic Hat
"10,000 hours of practice - not talent - creates virtuosos."

"Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded."  - Jimi Hendrix

World at large - Modest Mouse
ICE AGE HEAT WAVE CAN'T COMPLAIN IF THE WORLDS AT LARGE WHY SHOULD I REMAIN?

One of my favourite tracks from Good News.

Too lazy to make a list right now.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

It's an awesome song indeed. The two-punch with The World at Large and Float On is my favorite ~8 minutes on the whole album. (awesome album btw)  :metal

Hell yes. Even if Float On is the radio hit, it remains a wonderful song.

The Fall of Every Season - The Triumphant Beast (doom metal/Opeth-soundalike)
Age of Silence - Auditorium of Modern Movements (avantgarde metal)
Anata - The Conductor's Departure (technical/melodic death metal)
...And Oceans - Mechanic Hippie (symphonic black metal)
Frantic Bleep - ...But a Memory (prog metal)
Gru - Pulsar (prog metal)
Sun Devoured Earth - I'm Bored of Living (shoegaze)
Dordeduh - Cumpăt (progressive black metal/ex-Negura Bunget)

Most of all, I'm surprised how little popularity Kauan has on this board.  I think Aava Tuulen Maa is a post-rock masterpiece.

Not five exactly...

Frost* - The Other Me

This song is great!

Dream Theater - Surrounded

Such a beautiful song. I agree this song deserves better recognition.

My top 5, let's see

Iluvatar - In the eye
Dragon - Sunburst
Marco Minnemann - Wrong
Eloy - Astral Entrance - Master of Sensation
Martin Orford - Out in the darkness
When Ginobili gets hot, I get hot in my pants.

Devin Townsend Project - Poltergeist
YES. DAT LAST MINUTE  :metal
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

I'd have to say, considering the tastes of this forum and of most music lovers, I'd have to say my 5 "underrated" songs would be

Nothing Gets Crossed Out-Bright Eyes
Bravest Face-Rush
Meeting Across the River-Bruce Springsteen
Demon League-Devin Townsend Project
Exo-Politics-Muse

This is just off the top of my head.  They may not be my favorites, but I absolutely adore them even though they don't get talked about much.

Super bump, I know, but I just came back across this thread, and realized that I discovered some awesome new music from you guys because of it, and I wanted so more!

Also, I have a new collection of five songs that everyone should know:

Lillian Axe - 47 Ways To Die
Crossfade - Dear Cocaine
Jolly - The Pattern
DC4 - Broken Soul
Curse Of The North - Red Doom
"10,000 hours of practice - not talent - creates virtuosos."

"Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded."  - Jimi Hendrix

My most underrated song? Well, it was a very popular song, but I don't know too many people in my generation or on this board appreciating it. It really touches me, though, and would make my top 5 songs of all time.

Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing "This'll be the day that I die, this'll be the day that I die..."
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
