So choosing between Stormcloaks and Imperials is pretty much the first time I actually had to stop and think about a choice I was making in an RPG. This game is awesome.

Which did you guys mostly choose?
I chose mostly based on my character's race. My current character is a High Elf, so I sided with the Imperials. With my nord character, I sided with the Stormcloaks.

Never join the Stormcunts. They're awful people. They're like teenagers who think they've unlocked the secrets to the universe but, are completely unable to understand that there is more going on around them.

Pretty much.

My first character was an assassin and thief, so getting rid of the Stormcloaks to make the Empire a bit lazier (like the thief says in the beginning of the game) was my overall goal.  But really, my choice was made when I walked into Windhelm and noticed what xenophobic douchebags the Stormcloaks could be, despite all their heroic freedom-fighting posturing.

The xenophobia doesn't bother me. It's the whole package of everything they stand for. The positives of their side are completely over-shadowed by the fact they're malfunctioning douchebags.

They're all douchebags. Especially Ulfric. Can't stand that guy.

Is there a different voice actor for Ulfric during the intro than in the rest of the game?  I had only ever heard him during the intro w/ my first few characters and he sounded like a regular dude ("legends don't burn down villages"), but once I finally went to Windhelm w/ my latest guy and talked to him for awhile he sounded all deep-voiced and mushmouthed like Sly Stallone or Sloth from the Goonies or something.  ???

I don't think so.  I thought he sounded basically the same.

I've decided to say "screw morals" and go with the Stormcloaks, because in a way it's like it's "historically accurate" for a Nord to do so. I'm in this course right now on late antiquity/early medieval Europe, and a lot of Germanic peoples joined the Roman armies as anything from troops to generals. They really put the heat on the Empire a lot to be instated into the army because they needed federati to settle on (basically self-governing reservations) and the wheat that was rationed to soldiers. Lacking such an option in Skyrim, I've decided to be a tribal Goth (or Nord, I guess), one of those guys that Rome was hiring other Germanic peoples to fight against.

The Imperials look like Romans though, and the Romans were pretty badass.

My 6950 has 2GB of RAM.     I upgraded my drivers from 11.9 to 12.1 and it's MUCH smoother now.

I think it starts to become pretty ridiculous when you start spending more time hunting down mods, installing them, and getting them to work with other mods than you do playing the game.

I say this as someone who did this very thing with Oblivion ALL THE TIME.

"Huh, I really wanna play some Oblivion... oh it's not installed? Damn."

*hunts down mods and patches, installs, 3 hours pass*

"Okay, everything is installed... WTF? Where's my textures?  Why is everything a barrel? Goddamnit."

*1 hour of fixing, reinstalling, uninstalling*

"Okay, time to play..."

*Get through intro and start wandering around, takes about 45 minutes*

"Eh, I'll get back to this tomorrow..."

*Never gets back to it*

My mods so far:

Space Core
The One Ring
Dragonbone Weapons (1 and 2)
Mammoth Chickens
Posh Mudcrabs
Auto Unequip Arrows
Backwards perk selection (i.e. 100 Smithing but you went down the light armor tree so you can't get Daedric smithing?  Now you can!)
Labeled skill books

Good thing I don't give a shit about mods, and good thing I don't give a shit about whether it's on a PC. I'm happy with my PS3 and I enjoy just leveling up and becoming a bad mother fucker, exploring dungeons, caves, and kicking ass. I couldn't care less about the main story of this game. As far as I'm concerned, the main story is just one of the billion miscellaneous quests available.

You say that without having a space core to keep you company or monocle-wearing Mudcrabs to attack you.

I have a hair mod, no helmet mod, HD texture mod and some lore friendly armies and weapons. Other than that, just game tweaks. Faster arrows, smithing/enchanting/speech/lock picking/alchemy don't advance your char level and some others.

Space core as in Portal 2's space core?! Because that would be fucking awesome!

Double-bladed lightsaber would be awesome, but none of the combat animations could support such a weapon!

Ugh. I have the Faster Arrows mod but, it doesn't work with bound arrows. Plus I'm a fucking narb and have no idea how to make it so it would change it.

That, my good sir, is what is called a crying shame. :(

Quite the coincidence, but I ran across this mod earlier today: Arrow Tweaks.

I was using FordPerfect's mod Faster Arrows for a while, but since he allowed permission to modify and/or improve his mod, I decided to finally add support for Bound Arrows and Practice Arrows, which is something that was bothering me for a long time.

Getting pretty pissed off, I started a new file and am making an archer, but on the steps to High Hrothgar is a snow sabre tooth that kills me in two swipes and I CANNOT get past it no matter what I do.
EDIT: LOL, just found out it had a partner.  I guess I'll be training.  This is quite weird as my last character made it all the way up and he was only level 5 or 6, and my new character is 11, fully decked in elven armer and weaponary equipment.
EDIT2: Housecarls are the best.

I stashed my housecarl in Solitude as soon as I could. I'd rather "work" alone. Now she just annoys me when I stop by the house in Whiterun.

Maybe it's because I'm on the highest difficulty now, but having a companion is a MUST. After any sneak attacks are complete I let them engage and take the brute of any battle. Enemies just take you down insanely quickly otherwise.
