Am I the only one who HATES the bards songs? I love the orchestral score for Skyrim, but the songs that are played by the characters are so horrible.

I think they're meant to be bad. A little humor amidst the slaughtering.

Heck, stealth/archery is the one combination where I actually enjoy the combat somewhat.

Indeed--the sneak attack bonus is pretty awesome too.

I remember it used to take me like 12 arrows to bring down a troll, now all I need is one well placed sneak shot with a critical hit and they just drop. I feel so badass.

I helped slay my first dragon and shall be heading to visit some greybeards after the Niners game. I have to say, the immensity of the game is everything I would have hoped for, and I've barely started.

Anyone having trouble with the PS3 version... try this until the patch is released. Not a permanent fix but it has seemed to help quite a few people with their lag.

They can be oh so amazing if done right.

I have well over a hundred hours on the game, and I've only traveled to maybe 70% of the map.

I have tomorrow off, so I'm looking forward to a night/whole day of lots of Skyrim. I've visited the greybeards and now will be going to retrieve a horn or some such thing. I've just bought a ton of new spells to try out and have been smithing and using alchemy with regularity and am moving up quickly in those categories as well as the combat related ones.

I think alchemy's kinda useless and hard for me, but enchanting rocks, make SURE you get that skill to 100.

I find that alchemy is really lame in Skyrim. It was much more effective/useful in Oblivion, imo.
You can make fortify enchantments, which are permanent, negating the need for fortifying potions.
Restoration magic is much, much more effective and improved over Oblivion, making health potions much less of a necessity.

The only really nice thing about alchemy is that if you spend enough time at it, you can make fortify enchantment potions, and create armour that fortifies alchemy. Wearing this armour, make more fortify enchantment potions, and repeat. This allows for some truly insane enchantments, but is really more of an end-game/for fun application of alchemy.

and the best way to train enchanting is to train your smithing by making iron daggers, then enchanting and selling them all.

Truth. Make sure you do it with petty soul gems only, because any other can get a bit expensive.

Alchemy IS pretty lame. I never use potions in game, aside from health potions when I'm getting bombarded by a lot of enemies at once.

My character's One Hand/Heavy Armor is getting pretty high up there (80s) and I've spammed iron daggers to level 91 so I've finally got the Daedric armor. I've been trying to boost my sneak too, which is a lot more fun than I thought it would be (but not very challenging). My original choice was one handed/destruction, but I find that destruction isn't really that beneficial. The recharge on the spells are annoying, and even though I have a few destruction enchanted items, I can only cast about 5 or 6 fireballs before my magicka is depleted. I've been using it mostly for enemies that are shooting bows at me from far away, because using it near any close enemies usually kills Lydia (who I've pretty much ditched at this point, its more fun to play the game with no help).

I think I'll finally finish up the main quest tonight, I was putting off the last two parts or so until I got the daedric armor.

Did not see the early twist coming on the top of the mountain. Having never played any of the Elder Scrolls games before the big chunks of info and history given at the top of the mountain really help to explain some things.

Generally in a thread without no spoilers in the title it's assumed spoilers will be discussed. How can you talk about Skyrim without talking about Skyrim?

For now I'll edit though.

It's not that big of a deal. I was watching my girlfriend play and when she got to that part, I was like "eh ok". let's just say the main story of Skyrim is the least of my interests.

ok, i was a bit harsh. my apologies

I realize you can't go without some spoilers... but that is one of only TWO major spoilers in the game, imo. I'll mention what the other one is, don't read it if you haven't completed the main quest, unless you don't care.

SPOILERS

the other one being that Alduin can travel to Sovngarde and consume the souls of the dead to prevent himself from dying

End Spoilers

anyways, I just figured that was one of the few things that should/could be considered a spoiler. My apologies again; I'll send a pm next time, and be more polite as well.

Well shit, now I know there is only one other major surprise. :p

In any case I did make a mistake of assuming everyone who cared about the series had bought this and played well ahead of me well before this. If the thread has kept it so the story isn't discussed in detail then let me know and I'll add no spoilers to the thread title.

well, there are little things. but I think there's only two large pieces of info (maybe three; has to do with the elder scroll) that really qualify as being "spoilers"

we'll see what the others think.
I don't normally mind reading spoilers myself, but I tend to take a WHAT ABOUT THE OTHERS?! mentality
