Second Edition Lifting Shadows autographed by Portnoy... and original Live Scenes From NY... a silver DT ring from ebay... and the Leather Jacket :D
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

It's not.

That's the instrumental demo cassette they made after Chris Collins left.  The original demo was from 1986.  There was only one test pressing for the 1986 demo, and it's sitting in my cabinet :).

They did another demo in 1987, but on a much smaller scale.  It's extremely rare - I've never seen another one before.  But I doubt it's worth $1,000.00
So...

- Demo (test pressing): the one you have
- Demo: Slicksy's one
- Another demo in 1987: 1000$ one of ebay?

That's right? Is that the right order?

This one is the second one of the list?

Thank you!!  :tup

Correct.  The first one and the second one contain the same material though... the first one was the "test pressing" (i.e., the first copy) of the second one.

Tough call.

Sealed Majesty demo cassette. (someone already posted a picture of it earlier)

Promo photos that still have Majesty printed on them.

Take The Time promo CD wrapped in the purple ribbon and gold wax seal.

When Dream and Day Unite promo poster, advance cassette and promo gold stamped vinyl

When Dream and Day Unite Tour shirt

Letter by early manager Ross (blanking on his first name) to Ozzy's record label suggesting Dream Theater become Ozzy's backing band.

There's probably more...just can't think of anything else at the moment.

Squier Strat signed by John Petrucci on the Awake Tour.  BC&SL(3CD) and Awake signed by Mike Portnoy at the San Antonio Sam Ash in-store last year.

Probably my I & W era poster signed by the whole band during a radio station visit promoting that album.
Or a letter from MP talking about Rush & his band Majesty from Feb '87.

What distinguishes this as a test pressing?

I'm assuming my copy is not one, but I just want to be sure.

I've never run across the 1987 demo either. I'd agree that there were probably less copies pressed in 1987 than there were of the 1986 demo.

Perhaps Mike can shed some light on the numbers pressed?

I know its not part their catalog but I purchased a DT beanie. When it arrives I'm deeming it rarer than BC&SL/ADToE special editions.

Nothing music wise...but the guys signed my copy of Lifting Shadows the last time they were in Melbourne.
Also the print  that came with the BC&SL Box Set was also signed by each member of the band including MP!

A framed signed Tour date announcement  of the Systematic Chaos Tour dates for Australia by Roadrunner which is great,
because it was their first time in OZ! (apart from G3 in 06)
It has an authenticity certificate but it still may be one of many but still great for me.

I don't think it is unique as with the meet and greets they are actually probably quite common

SFAM signed by the whole band line-up 1999-2010

well the booklet is the signed item

Had it signed in the Meet and greet in Southampton 2009
