Any fans of Orphaned Land out there?
« on: November 06, 2011, 06:09:51 PM »
Just wondering if anyone also likes this band in this forum. I'm sure they would get appreciation here. If you know them, great. If you don't, check 'em out!
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

I like them.  They used to get talked about a lot more 5 or so years ago, when Mabool was still newer.  I think the long drought of albums sapped some of that active interest.

They are an absolutely phenomenal band. I don't really care too much for their first two albums but Mabool and Orwarrior are outstanding masterpieces. I really want to get their new DVD btw.

Really good band, I really digged Mabool and Warrior. I listen to them every now and then and it's always a pleasure when they do come on my playlist

There was an orwarrior thread out there somewhere, it's probably too old now.

But anyway, really good band. Innovative but also somewhat flawed. Mabool felt original but had it's weaker parts, whilst orwarrior was stronger overall but Steve Wilson really should have reigned them in more, it's got far too many wanky wank technical parts that make it far too long of an album, when if they had chopped about 20-25 minutes from it then it would have been absolutely amazing.

Actually, the only album I've heard is orwarrior and some of Mabool. I like OrWarrior much better.

I think I'm the definitive Orphaned Land fan here, or at least I've been told since I actually own The Beloved's Cry.  I'm waiting for my copy of The Road to or-Shalem Deluxe Hardback book to arrive.

I actually find myself listening to Mabool more.  I think ORwarriOR has better production, but I like the songwriting in Mabool more.  Both albums are very good though and I'd recommend them to anybody.  Beloved's Cry is good, but it has less of the "local flavor" that really add to Mabool and ORwarriOR.

That "local flavor" is really what I like about these guys. Israeli folk music FTW!

You guys don't find orwarrior too long?

https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/34333/Orphaned-Land-The-Never-Ending-Way-Of-ORwarriOR/

I agree with pretty much everything this guy says, except that it's better than the rating he gave it. Interestingly the same guy gave mabool a 5 (though he says its a 4.5 now)

I think it's a great album. Some tracks stand out more than others and I agree that it could be a bit shorter, also. Considering I haven't heard all of Mabool (OrWarrior is my first (and currently only) album), OW is good.

As I stated earlier, I think Mabool is better than ORwarriOR.  Obviously I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Guys. Kobi Fahri has put together a compilation of oriental metal, the first ever! It includes bands such as Myrath, Amaseffer, Nile and Orphaned Land, to name a few.

If you already heard about this and pre-ordered it, they will be shipped soon.

It will be awesome.  :metal

They are almost a band I'd love but the vocals ruin it for me. Don't like the harsh voice in any music, but the melodic vocal here doesn't do it for me either- not doubting the quality of the singer, it's more the melodies and style of singing I don't like. Musically it's got a lot to offer me as I love the Middle-Eastern vibe in bands like Myrath and Amaseffer (and DT even- Outcry, Home)- it comes from my love of Ritchie Blackmore I guess. Can't get past the vocals though, and that's a shame.
I like the message too, though i don't imagine Amadinajad changing his policies after hearing their albums.

Like the new song; I loved Mabool but I think their ambition outreached their grasp on the last album. Hopefully this'll be as amazing as Mabool was.
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings become dust in the wake of the hymn.
Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall, no more than a breath on the wind.

Just heard the whole album. Not quite as good as Orwarrior, but still amazing. The orchestration is just mindblowing.

Actually, that info kind of turns me off. I really love Kobi's harsh vocals because they are so unique. I'll probably listen to this one, but so far I don't like what I'm hearing as much as Orwarrior. Still decent mind you, but just not at Orwarrior or Mabool level.
