Ok so I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card to play Battlefield.  I feel like the game just isn't running smooth enough with the card that I have. 

I think I would want to get the ATI Radeon 6950 card.  But when I look at them to buy, it looks like many different companies make this card.  This is confusing me.  How do I know which one to get?  Also, how the heck am I supposed to install it, it looks like it takes up 2 slots.

All of these look like double slots to me.  Also I'm reading that the cards are physically large and might need more power from the power supply.  I feel like it might be a nightmare trying to find a card that works well.

Does your card handle battlefield perfectly on high settings?

They probably only take up one PCI slot but physically take up 2 slots.

My card requires two extra power leads.

spent two hours last night just trying to get a single point in a jet. ridiculous! as there's no flares with begin with you're practically limited in what you can do. argh so frustrating.

mind you, did manage to get a quadruple kill, destroying a jeep and a tank with one rpg shot <3

What's the wattage of your power supply?  For a card like that you will need at least probably 500W bare minimum.

Your power supply will also need 6 pin PCI-E cables like these:

As for the different brands, just shop around and pay attention to reviews.  Try to figure out the one that you think seems to be the best, there's also price to consider.  Generally though there isn't a massive amount of difference between brands apart from build quality, fans etc, some might be overclocked and more powerful.               

If your power supply isn't up to it you can always upgrade that as well.

Well I have an ATI HD 4850 now, so I might have the infrastructure necessary already to put a new card in.  If the 4850 demands similar things.  But the 6950 just seems larger in size so I'm not sure if it will physically fit.
