The Bob Dylan Show
« on: July 03, 2009, 10:19:24 AM »
Just saw The Bob Dylan Show in Sauget (near St. Louis) last night.  It was a ballpark show and I waited in line for about 2 and a half hours to get near the front.  It consisted of sets from The Wiyos (opening band), Willie Nelson & Family, John Mellencamp and Bob Dylan and His Band.  It was one hell of a show.  The opening band The Wiyos were interesting, they were a roots music revivalist band who played a lot of old standards uniquely.  The singer played everything from horn to washboard to megaphone.  They were interesting to say the least but nothing special really.  Willie Nelson was average.  All his songs sounded the same, although he did a really great job of addressing the crowd and getting everyone into his boring songs.  Mellencamp was pretty good, he had a huge band (including a violinist and accordion player) and rocked out to classics as well as recent tunes off his newest 'patriotic' album.  Bob Dylan blew me away, while he can't deliver the vocal lines like he used to, he jazzes up the songs to make up for it.  His hour and 45 minute set was sheer bliss, I couldn't believe how close I was to the man himself, I was about 15 feet away.

Here's the Dylan setlist:

1.    Watching The River Flow (Bob on guitar)
2.    Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Bob on guitar)
3.    The Levee's Gonna Break (Bob on keyboard)
4.    Spirit On The Water (Bob on keyboard)
5.    Things Have Changed (Bob on keyboard)
6.    Just Like A Woman (Bob on keyboard) [the highlight of the set for me, everyone was singing along]
7.    Honest With Me (Bob on keyboard)
8.    Forgetful Heart (Bob on harp center stage - no keyboard)
9.    Highway 61 Revisited (Bob on keyboard)
10.    This Dream Of You (Bob on guitar)
11.    Thunder On The Mountain (Bob on keyboard)
12.    Like A Rolling Stone (Bob on keyboard)

     (encore)
13.    Jolene (Bob on keyboard)
14.    All Along The Watchtower (Bob on keyboard)

And on the 8th day, God created Dream Theater. God then proceeded to rock out with his cock out.

I saw him a year or two ago, it was pretty good. His band was pretty bloody amazing.

This was the set I got:

Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
Don’t Twice, It’s All Right
Watch the River Flow
It’s Alright Ma, (I’m Only Bleeding)
Workingman Blues
Rollin and Tumblin
Just Like a Woman
Lonesome Day Blues
(Most Likely) You’ll Go Your Way And I’ll Go Mine
Tangled Up in Blue
Spirit on the Water
Highway 61 Revisited
When the Deal Goes Down
Summer Days
Masters of War

Thunder on the Mountain
All Along the Watchtower

Highlights for me were Workingman's Blues and Lonesome Day Blues. I'm quite the fan of his recent albums, although I haven't heard his latest.

Oh wow, Jolene?!  Awesome, how was that?  I saw him in my hometown and he played such an awesome set, so many highlights; My Back Pages, Ballad of a Thin Man, Nettie Moore, Highway 61, Tangle up in Blue.  So cool seeing a living legend play, what an experience.

All the songs that he played off his new album were awesome.  I also enjoyed all the Modern Times tracks.

Wow, that is a really good setlist. Forever Young, Tombstone Blues, Girl From the North Country, Cold Irons Bound (I love these slow heavy-ass blues songs off his recent albums).
