Just saw The Bob Dylan Show in Sauget (near St. Louis) last night. It was a ballpark show and I waited in line for about 2 and a half hours to get near the front. It consisted of sets from The Wiyos (opening band), Willie Nelson & Family, John Mellencamp and Bob Dylan and His Band. It was one hell of a show. The opening band The Wiyos were interesting, they were a roots music revivalist band who played a lot of old standards uniquely. The singer played everything from horn to washboard to megaphone. They were interesting to say the least but nothing special really. Willie Nelson was average. All his songs sounded the same, although he did a really great job of addressing the crowd and getting everyone into his boring songs. Mellencamp was pretty good, he had a huge band (including a violinist and accordion player) and rocked out to classics as well as recent tunes off his newest 'patriotic' album. Bob Dylan blew me away, while he can't deliver the vocal lines like he used to, he jazzes up the songs to make up for it. His hour and 45 minute set was sheer bliss, I couldn't believe how close I was to the man himself, I was about 15 feet away.
Here's the Dylan setlist:
1. Watching The River Flow (Bob on guitar)
2. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Bob on guitar)
3. The Levee's Gonna Break (Bob on keyboard)
