With this whole indie prog tag people are giving these guys, are there any/many similar sounding bands about so I can get a vague picture of how they sound? I used to listen to alot of "indie" but its' a pretty broad term these days.

When trying to actually describe the music, indie is pretty much like pop in that the tag is useless.

Indeed, so a more specific description would be useful to me.

One of the great things about having so many songs is that some songs click early, and some click later.  Like today, The Dead Don't Starve just clicked.  I know we're all prone to hyperbole when it comes to new albums, but seriously I haven't been so rapt by an album on its first listen since *drumroll*  Images & Words, my all-time favorite album.  So...yeah, TCS is special.

How about you just listen to it and forget labels?

I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Yeah, I don't get why people dislike Blue. I think it's probably one of the better EPs.

The only one I didn't care for too much was Red.

I think Blue just takes a little more time and exposure to get into.  For the most part the songs on there are the kind that need to settle in and gestate before fully blossoming, rather than the kind that just hit you right away.

Also -
When trying to actually describe the music, indie is pretty much like pop in that the tag is useless.

Indeed, so a more specific description would be useful to me.

I think the best way to get a sense of what they sound like is to just listen to The Lake and The River: https://grooveshark.com/s/The+Lake+And+The+River/Fprc5?src=5

Might not necessarily be the best "introduction to the band" song, but it contains pretty much all of the elements that make The Dear Hunter who they are.

Guys, I had to edit a couple of posts (including Zep's :P) to replace unofficial youtube links with legal Grooveshark ones. Glaurung's official Triple Crown Records ones are cool though.

But seriously, how hard can it be to just open up Grooveshark and find links there instead?

Does Filth and Squalor remind anyone else of dubstep?

Somehow I knew you'd want to provide input on that subject. By the way, the song has two of the three main components of dubstep. Wobble bass and a two-step beat. If it were 140 bpm then it would officially be dubstep.

Regardless, it really doesn't have much of a dubby feel.

This made my day:

Not only the fact that FYE carries the album, but that it's displayed in the front of the store, on the Hot New Music rack.
