Well, Migrant finally arrived, albeit bend and warped  :(

I'm sorry, but I'm done. TDH get no more money from me.

Is it so much to pay a fair price for something and expect it to arrive on-time, in reasonably good condition, without your order being lost in customer service limbo along the way?

Nearly everything that could have went wrong about my "Migrant" buying process now has.

I don't really see how that is TDH's fault. Casey doesn't press the vinyl himself, and delays can happen to anyone, and there are several reasons for something being delayed. I remember back when Converge released their latest album last year, and their vinyl was delayed because the entire discography of The Beatles was being reprinted on vinyl, and this somehow affected them. It was kinda bizarre and unfortunate, but the artists can't really do anything about it.

Regarding the package being damaged or bent, that is more of a post-office issue. Some record labels don't really package the stuff that well, and in those cases I think the record label should get some of the criticism, but how hard can it be for the post-office to deliver a package without it being completely destroyed? The few times I have gotten a damaged package, I always think of the first scene in Ace Ventura when Jim Carrey delivers the package, and he kicks/throws around the package.  :lol

But yeah, I don't see how it's TDH's fault in terms of damaged package or vinyl delays. It's something that can happen to any band, and you will probably have to cross a lot of bands off your "will buy stuff from"-list if those two are the only annoying aspects.

Yeah, I get that it isn't TDH fault, but it kinda is, considering they have these kinds of issues surrounding the past few releases (don't they?).

And frankly, I've had bad experiences before, but this has just been worse, hence the "forget TDH" attitude I've begun to adopt. I mean, EVERYTHING went wrong with this. First, the vinyl was delayed. Then, I never got the MP3s of the album. Then, my MP3s were skippy. Now the vinyl shows up, warped.

BTW, it takes 2-3 days for (at least) for MerchNow to get back to me, though sometimes they don't get back to me at all until I send another e-mail out. I don't really know what I should do, but I really don't want to deal with this anymore, and am getting to the point where I'd rather just cut my losses and just get used to the idea that Casey Crescenzo got me for $20  without worrying about it anymore. Unless either of you guys think bringing it up at TDH forum would do any good?

Oddly, I've had bad experience the last two times I've tried to buy things directly from artists. Guess it's back to Amazon for everything!

Oh man I am sorry to hear about your experience. Reminds me when I pre-ordered a dredg album through merchnow. It arrived almost two months later. MerchNow is just plain horrible in all of my experiences. They promised everyone digital copies to hold them over until the record came through the mail, but I never got anything. You had to e-mail them for a link and wait a few days to get a response.

I am also pretty reluctant to buy stuff directly from artists. It sounds sad but I too have fallen pray numerous times to late deliveries, missing or damaged goods.

They've had problems with skippy mp3s again? They had that in Europe with TCS, bit shoddy that it's happened again! Why does nobody test this stuff?

Yeah, I have no-doubt it's MerchNow that are awful. But, The Dear Hunter are not blameless. They continue to use the same awful company that's provided so much woe over the last few releases.

I'm not sure what the reason is for them using MerchNow.  I suspect it may be a contractual issue with the record label, but that's just a guess.  They don't really have a great reputation in general.

I don't think bringing it up on the TDH forum will do much.  Maybe in the "Ask Casey" thread.... that would be your best chance for getting a response from him.  Their tour just ended too, so there's a good chance he'll be browsing the forums a bit more frequently now.  I would just suggest trying to phrase it in a respectful, non-accusatory manner - the fan base over there is pretty protective so if it comes off as if you're just there to attack him or the band, then they'll probably get angry and defensive.

Might also be worth tweeting him if you're on Twitter.  He's pretty active on there.

Just an update, this shit still isn't resolve. And MerchNow are claiming I have a return/exchange form that I never received.

Never again.

FYI - One of the guys from the TDH forum recently contacted Triple Crown Records to ask about possible re-pressings of the Acts and got this response:

We will be pressing the Act LP's on vinyl, coming later this year. We'll announce soon.

I would like to Buy Act 3 but I can't find any shop in Europe that has it in stock (not even Amazon). I can't even find US stores that have it. Anyone know where I could look?

For some reason it's become incredibly difficult to find.  It's been out of print for a while and nobody seems to have copies available.  I'm sure it'll get re-released one of these days...

So a couple of weeks ago when TDH announced their second NYC show, the StageIt live rehearsal and their participation in Prog Nation At Sea, they also included this little teaser at the end:

Quote
Additionally, our frontman Casey Crescenzo is planning an exciting announcement about an upcoming musical project for mid-August. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter to be the first to hear the news!

Then today Casey posted this message onto the TDH forum:

Quote
Next week we are going to make an announcement, and I am going to need your guys help spreading the word, and rallying people behind it...

just giving y'all a heads up

coo?

Something new and interesting is in the works....
Casey has already confirmed that the new project is not a Dear Hunter thing, but it looks like he'll be revealing his plans to the world in a few short days' time.

:coolio

1st reaction: Finally, I have been waiting for a long time to buy this album.

2nd reaction: OMG, only 10$. What a deal.

3rd reaction: They want me to pay 15$ for shipping, seriously? 150% of the cost of the product?
The wait will have to continue until some European store has it in stock.

DAMN I've been wanting TDH in Europe forever but they aren't coming to Spain and I don't think I'm going to be able to travel abroad just for this (too much money and too many logistics involved at home with the kids and everything).

FINALLY! I'd kinda given up on the idea of TDH ever coming to the UK, and now we get a whole bunch of dates. :D All small venues, but that's still awesome, and the Garage is like 20 minutes walk from my flat.
