This stuff sounds AMAZING! Makes me wonder how great the stuff on Migrant must be.

I hope they intend to release Migrations on CD or digital download. Vinyl is no good for me.

I would be really surprised if it isn't made available in some sort of digital format at some point or another.

^^^ I'm kinda like that too.  I listened once, but I'm really trying to avoid listening again until the album comes out.

Btw - anybody else going to the NYC show at Gramercy?

I'll be there.

My love affair with TDH is basically over. Before TCS came out, I discovered them and binged on all three Acts. TDH quickly became a top band. Then TCS came out, and I pretty much hated it. I pretty much still do. Unfortunately, the new song doesn't have me very excited. I just feel like every TDH song since Act III sounds so familiar, like I could find it somewhere else by another band, if I could only put a finger on where I've heard something similar before.

Not trying to be killjoy.

I love all three acts, but The Color Spectrum is probably my favorite release by them. So much variety, so much awesomeness.

I too thought The Color Spectrum was very disappointing compared to the three Acts.

I like some of the Acts songs more, but as a whole work I prefer TCS.

TCS probably has an album worth of stuff that I find pretty good, but even that sounds really derivative, like if I scoured the indie section of Vintage Vinyl some pretty heavy influences would turn up.

or Act IV, V, and VI simultaneously? (I recall at least 2 interviews Casey mentioned wanting to finish the 6 Act Series, but possibly releasing the last 3 all at once).

I know with a pretty high degree of certainty that Casey hasn't yet decided the exact timing or format for how the last three acts will be released, but based on unofficial information, my guess is that they'll be released individually as opposed to all three at once.  (I know that he mentioned that possibility in the past, but I get the sense that he's since changed his mind - then again, it's entirely possible that he's changed it back again).

Live version of "An Escape" from the new album.

FYI - I haven't actually watched it yet, so I can't comment on it substantively.  I'm trying really hard to wait for the album to be released.

That, right there, is the best summary of why I can't get into these guys, despite all the massive hype and praise.  :lol

I find that to be a pretty strange reaction personally, mostly because I think of TDH as far more prog than the vast majority of indie bands, and far more indie than a vast majority of prog bands.  I'd be curious to see what other bands you guys think they're derivative of... if for no other reason than because those are bands that I'm sure I'd really like.

lol TDH is not derivative at all. Unless you want to say they are derivative of Casey's soul.

I think the Acts aren't derivative at all.

TCS, on the other hand, is. A bit. It might be more diverse, musically, but those diversions are into realms of music far less unique than what is present on the Acts.

That could be the problem, since it's only been TCS I've given a try to.

Oh.  Yeah, that's definitely not representative of the band's overall sound.  I mean, I definitely enjoy it, but it was also something of an experiment.  The only part of TCS that really sounds like the bulk of their material is the stuff on the Violet EP.

I like them, but they are a bit like Motörhead to me in the sense that their stuff sounds too much alike. I immediately fell in love with Act 1, but Act 2 didn't hit me nearly as hard and Act 3 sounded too familiar to make an impact.

I still enjoy all three albums (still haven't listened to TCS) from time to time, but they need to get more diverse.

@Jaq, you want less derivative stuff -> listen to the Acts, it's where the most "pure" TDH sound is, and I'd say it's pretty unique.

@me7, you want diversity -> go listen to TCS, 9 EPs with 9 different styles covering electronic, acoustic, hard rock, pop... you can't get much more diverse than that.

I kind of get where you're coming from, but I actually thought Act 3 sounded pretty different than Acts I and II.  Definitely lots of similarities between the first two acts though, probably because they were written around the same time.  Half of Act II was actually written before Act I.

Agreed. The Acts are similar to each other, but musically and storywise, Act III is a bit of a departure.

Hopefully gonna see them next Thursday! Anyone else going to the Dallas show, by chance?

Just ordered the deluxe bundle... pretty expensive with shipping costs to Spain (107 euros) but to be honest I'd rather have this than buy 10 CDs by bands that I don't love nearly as much as TDH.

Has anyone heard anything about what they'll be playing for the tour?  I know the first show was last night.

EDIT: According to facebook fans they played for 2.5 hours.  :o  March 24th can't get here soon enough.
