Saw Casey tonight and he said the new album should be coming out around March, with a full tour to follow.

So are you two retty much friends now or do you just see each other a lot because of the lifetime fan thing?

It's also an absurdly fun live song.  Especially when they play it at the Knitting Factory.

Check it out (Red Hands starts at around 1:12:00 into the video)

Well... I saw him last night because he played a solo show in NYC.  He just mentioned that stuff while talking to the crowd.  In general he's a pretty busy guy and lives on the opposite side of the country from me, so I don't really see him all that much outside of shows.  I think he spends the vast majority of his life either on the road or in a studio.  Most of the time when we talk it's either via TDH forum chat room, twitter, or occasionally e-mails and text messages.  Half the time I don't even get to talk to him at shows because he's always mobbed by the crowds and I don't have the patience to stand around waiting for like 30-45 minutes until the crowd dissipates.  Only time I ever really chat with him in person anymore is if I happen to run into him before a show or while one of the openers is playing or something.  Although at this point I'm lucky enough to have gotten to know him at least well enough to the point where if he sees me hanging around he'll generally at least come over to say hi or to give me a big sweaty hug (or occasionally to make fun of my dancing)

It's so hard not to be though!  In addition to the awesomeness of the music, they're just the coolest most down to earth guys ever.  It's amazing how much time and effort Casey puts in to giving back to the fans.  He'll hang out in the crowd after EVERY show and will wait around to talk to every single person who wants to talk to him.  And he works harder than anybody I've ever known... the guy is constantly touring, writing, recording, working with other bands... and all for very little money.  And it's not just Casey... most of the other band members (past and present) are all super cool and super friendly.  They're one of those bands that I just think really deserves to make it.

Well yeah, and I think it betrays a complete and genuine love of music itself, at least on Casey's part. Like when you look at Paul McCartney, watch him live, you can see it's not all about nostalgia, or the money, or even PLUR (like, groovy man). The guy brings with him and can play a million instruments, and he is music. I get the impression that's what Casey is like as well.

Yo so I like just listened to most of the Color Spectrum, and it was woah.

Indigo and Violet are awesome, and so is Black. So far not too into Orange, but I guess I'll see. The rest are really cool, too.

Anyway, what's up with this group? I'm tryna see what I can else I can get by 'em.

Oh and first post. yeah.

All three of the Act albums are amazing. It can't really pick a wrong one or order to listen to them in.

Oh and first post. yeah.

They started off as a concept band, so their first three albums make up the first three parts of a 6-part story.  First three albums are:

Act I: The Lake South, The River North
Act II: The Meaning Of, and All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
Act III: Life and Death

After Act III, they took a break from the Acts storyline to record the Color Spectrum (which it seems you've already heard)

To date, that's all they've really officially released.  They just finished recording their next album, which has no theme or concept - it's just a standard collection of songs.  The album does not yet have a title, and is currently slated for release around March, 2013.

If you want to dig a little deeper, there's an early demo called Dear Ms. Leading, which contains some early versions of Act II songs and a few other songs that haven't been released anywhere.  There's also a special edition of Act III with a couple of bonus tracks.

Then there's two early EPs called Random EP #1 and Random EP #2.  #1 has remixes of three songs from Act II, and #2 has all three tracks from#1, plus an alternate version of the first song from Act I, an Untitled song not available anywhere else and a cover of Elton John's Yellow Brick Road.

They also have a 3-track fan club EP floating around out there called The Branches EP.  Three new songs completely unrelated to any of the Acts or TCS stuff.

That covers the basics.  If you wanna get REALLY crazy, there are also a couple of other random demo songs floating around out there.  A few cover songs -  Brazil [Sinatra], The War of All Against All [Receiving End of Sirens], Unison [Bjork], Lilac Wine [Nina Simone/Jeff Buckley], Beautiful Girls [Sean Kingston], Grounds For Divorce [Elbow], Priests and Paramedics [Pedro The Lion] and Chestnuts Roasting On a Open Fire.

And a few super obscure originals - Paycheck, Banjo Song and a song called Red Wine recorded w/ one of the dudes from Atreyu

I think that's everything :P

Hah.  They really are.  Although Nick (the bass player) has recently shaved off his beard, so now only the Crescenzo family rep the beards while the other three are clean shaven.

For a while he did the "mustache-only" look.  Then shaved that off too.  I'm sure it'll come back though.  He's grown it out, shaved it off and grown it back a few times.

Listening to The Color Spectrum and reading the notes makes this album more enjoyable. Black is really vool and seperate. Red was interesting and Orange does feel vlassic '70's rock. On Yellow now...

They're sort of an unmatched pair, though. Even Frost* and DT (or even PT and DT) are very different from each other so that it would be weird to hear them together.

Sure, but didn't DT open for Iron Maiden recently? I think it's more logical with something progressive opening for something progressive, even though like you said, Progressive has quite the variety, and TDH are pretty different.

Right, like Maiden and DT are a good match, or Symphony X and DT (although less so, I think). DT is progressive metal, but they match well on tours with metal bands. TDH, idk what I'd call them. I label them hipster prog, for lack of a better descriptor.

Yeah I get what you mean. People who like DT mainly because of their metal-sound would probably not get the same enjoyment out of a non-metal progressive band, so it's hard to say. I don't know if TDH are big enough yet to open for DT, I don't mean that as anything bad, but last time DT played here, Symphony X opened for them, and Symphony X has quite a few albums on their neck.

Oh well, I think it all comes down to the band/the label. If DT likes TDH or has heard of them it's not impossible I guess.

Oh, no, I was thinking more the other way around: a bunch of indie assholes who came to see TDH, and then DT comes on and they're like, "WTF is this shit?"

And it was fuckin' sweet.

I could see them opening for DT.  They have more albums than bands like Beardfish, UneXpect, and Bigelf, who MP really liked taking on tour, and are different enough that the pairing would make for an interesting show rather than just prog metal all the time.
