Yea it's gotta be. They've been teasing a release date for so long. I got excited that they'd actually announced when the bloody thing is coming out.

the comments there on reddit mention the 1st single from The Indigo Child 1-week from Friday.

Timely for myself per I started making The Dear Hunter videos on my YouTube channel recently, so it'll probably be worth mentioning on there as well.

I'm not on the Pillar, but will havew to plan for tomorrow.

I guess part of me is not surprised given how long its been, Casey maybe wanted the 2 pieces of media to come out simultaneously.

When I started working on the concept for The Indigo Child, I imagined introducing the project with a record of music "From the Motion Picture", knowing in my heart a motion picture, of any length, would never exist. I would just write pieces of a hypothetical score, and release them along lyrical "singles", or theme songs.

As the Indigo Child evolved, I became obsessed with the world, its inhabitants, and their story. Though The Dear Hunter was working through the project's first full length, and we were all in love with how the album was progressing, I felt it couldn't be the introduction I offered for The Indigo Child. I threw myself entirely into writing a screenplay, dreaming of a way to create "Cycle 8": a cinematic prologue to the main narrative of The Indigo Child. Stars impossibly aligned, and with the help of an absolutely phenomenal cast and crew of incredibly talented people, the dream came true.

Now, the tether between music and visuals didn't have to be hypothetical. The score could be the score, and the singles could be featured in the film itself. The result is The Dear Hunter's "The Indigo Child": the introduction the project deserves.

After all this time, it is an absolute joy to share The Indigo Child, and its accompanying short film "Cycle 8", with you. I hope you dive in, and find beauty in what could be, because there's much more on the way.

Being more of a film score than a normal album, this didn't do a ton for me on the first pass. I don't love the heavy use of synths on this either as I've generally thought the TDH songs heavy on synths are some of their worst songs. Not really my cup of tea, but I'll give it a few more listens.

So now I'm confused. Indigo Child had a track called Antimai and both album covers (if that tour poster is the album cover) have the triangle shape going on... Is Antimai just like, a proper album/band version of the story while IC was like a film score version?

After revisiting Act IV recently, I've decided to start working my way through all the other Acts, starting with Act I. It's good, but I don't know how much more I'll enjoy it when I get to know it better. For the first album by The Dear Hunter, though, it's pretty cool and shows a lot of potential.

I've been listening to Act II over the past week or so, and it has really grown on me. There are so many great songs on this album, and all throughout the album there's a lot of diversity and emotion. Aside from Red Hands, which I almost always skip, this album is consistently great. My favorites include "The Oracles on the Delphi Express", "The Bitter Suite I & II", "Dear Ms. Leading", and "Vital Vessels Vindicate". Vital Vessels Vindicate is probably my favorite on the album just for the first four minutes alone. If Act III and Act V are just as good if not better than this, I think The Dear Hunter could end up being one of my all-time favorite bands.

cool.

I actually have been making YouTube videos about The Dear Hunter catalog of late, and did a ranking just the other day and kind of feel the same about Act II after all these years, aside from Red Hands which I know a lot of fans and Casey himself don't care for. I still find it works, even as corny and is comes across as teenage angst. I'm still just a sucker for the arrangement.

I finally got to watch the short film on the Indigo Child and the EP made perfect sense as a prelude to the upcoming album. Gotta give Casey credit for coming up with these stories that hook you in while keeping the music at the front of everything.

After seeing the short film I've started enjoying the EP so much more - I can't wait to deep dive this world more.

Act II is the one that feels like it represents the band the best. It's the same sort of situation as Coheed's In Keeping Secrets. All of their albums are fantastic but II just has it all.

I've spent the past several hours listening to Acts I-V and The Color Spectrum all in a row, and ranking each song as I listen to them. This list is certainly not finalized, but here's what my Top 20 The Dear Hunter songs look like right now:

1. Home
2. Vital Vessels Vindicate
3. The Moon / Awake
4. A Night on the Town
5. The March
6. Dear Ms. Leading
7. In Cauda Venenum
8. The Bitter Suite I & II: Meeting Ms. Leading and Through the Dime
9. The Bitter Suite IV & V: The Congregation and the Sermon in the Silt
10. Gloria
11. The Oracles on the Delphi Express
12. The Lake and the River
13. The Old Haunt
14. Black Sandy Beaches
15. The Most Cursed of Hands / Who Am I
16. The Procession
17. The Revival
18. Mr. Usher (On His Way to Town)
19. King of Swords (Reversed)
20. A Beginning

I do love Home so I can live with that. But my number 1 song by a long way is Lillian.

Funny thing... Is There Anybody Here? is actually #21 on my list.

Lillian is #71 on my list. I know that sounds bad, but I still consider it a good song. I've only listened to The Color Spectrum in full three or four times, so I'm not that familiar with many of the songs on there (except for Home, which I've been familiar with for a while already). There's still a good chance that a lot of the songs on TCS could soon go up in my rankings significantly.

Those three are my least-favorites from their respective color. :lol What Time Taught Us would be on there too if Thermal didn't exist (the only song on the whole project that feels like filler).

Black - Never Forgive, Never Forget
Red - We've Got A Score To Settle (or maybe A Curse Of Cynicism)
Orange - But There's Wolves?
Yellow - She's Always Singing
Green - Crow and Cackle
Blue - The Collapse of the Great Tide Cliffs
Indigo - Progress
Violet - Lillian
White - Home

I still feel like I'm the only person that Indigo does nothing for. My least favorite color by far.
