Honestly I probably couldn't rank the last three albums. They each have so many amazing facets to them that I pretty much love them equally, as they're making music that just essentially sounds perfect to me. There are flaws, but I love the style and approach to music so much that I just look past them for the most part.

I know what you guys mean and I can sort of relate. I know I come down on Weather Systems hard some times but I really do like the album. Sometimes I get frustrated when something is good but could easily have been even better with a few alterations, and I also tend to notice the flaws (even if they sometimes doesn't matter that much).

I try not to do what you do Zantera because I'll ruin my listening experience. (My own fault!)  If I tend to play an album over and over it means I like the hell out of it.

The first song I ever heard was 'Deep'. The album Judgement didn't appeal to me back then, now it still doesn't do much for me.
With A Natural Disaster, I at least made it through, and it was always a nice occasional spin.
When WHBWH came out, I instantly thought it was their greatest achievement yet.

I always knew about the band since Judgement, but I really think they're getting better and more professional with each new record.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

They seem to think so too, which has me constantly excited for anything they put out in the future.

I know it may not be the most popular opinion, but I think that You're Not Alone is fantastic. It just makes me want to dance like a lunatic. It may be my least favorite song on the album, but it's only a hair behind Lost Song Part One.

I've taken some days off from listening to it (because I don't wanna overplay it), but I plan on spinning it during the weekend again. I find myself walking around the apartment and just start humming along to different melodies on the album, so after 4-5 listens I guess that's a really good sign.  :D

I would probably say this is a top3 release for 2014 out of the ~50 albums I've heard so far. I think that's quite impressive considering how much good stuff has been released.

I keep getting sections stuck in my head out of nowhere too, definitely a good sign!

The last chorus and the solo of Anathema was stuck on my head for a whole damn day. Damn epic track, I can't think of a better song to self-title it.

GB dates finally  :coolio

Will definitely be popping along to the Glasgow show. A few people in the comments of the Facebook post speculating that Tesseract might be the support. Now that would be awesome  :metal

Good news for you all! I look forward to getting a North American tour announced eventually, but I'm not holding my breath

Yeah- TesseracT and Anathema would be a really odd pairing.

I don't know if there are even any good venues for them in Liverpool, but I'm sure they'll play there at some point.

EDIT: Ok turns out there are quite a few. :lol

I bought the album today and will listen to it later :) I find it cool that Jamie finally got a writing credit on a song after all these years with the band.

anyone get The Lost Song pt. 3 digital single? "Coda" sounds somewhat familiar... (the remix is pretty lame though)

Ok, I listened to Distant Satellites and it left a way better first impression than Weather Systems. I like the more melancholic vibe, and the first two parts of The Lost Song, Ariel and Anathema really stood out. I think one of the reasons I was sort of disappointed by WS was that the songs that were released before the album (Untouchable Pt. 1 and The Beginning and the End) ended up being my favorites and nothing else felt as good, but on DS the song that was released as a preview of the album (The Lost Song Pt. 3) isn't one of the highlights. The only song I don't like yet is You're Not Alone, but I could see DS becoming one of my top 4 Anathema albums after more listens. Also, one of the things I paid attention to was Vinnie's vocal performance - he's always been a great singer, but there are some pretty intense vocal moments on this album.

I was thinking the same thing. Particularly great vocal moments for me are the last line in "Anathema", when he enters in "Ariel" and the last part of "Dusk".

This is one of those albums with a lot of details put into it, you can really tell. I've heard it 6-7 times now and I discovered during Lost Song Pt1 that there's a more quiet part kicking in where you hear Lee sing parts of Lost Song Part 2 vaguely in the background. For some reason I didn't pick up on this little detail the first times I heard it, but it's one of those small details that helps connecting the songs nicely.

Duncan Patterson's band Alternative 4 are supporting Anathema on their Irish dates in September. I wonder if he'll join them on stage for a song or two...

The song 'Distant Satellites' opens up a possible new path to delve into. That's a freakin' EDM track and it's absolutely amazing.

EDM?

I think I like his drumming better than John Douglas' drumming already.

John and Danny told him what to do, he's not credited for writing the drum tracks nor did they write
the songs in the studio - all pre-planned.

Les Smith and John on drums was the best set-up, Patterson on bass as well though Jamie has done a good job this time espeically.

Finally bought the album, but I've already heard it and I absolutely love it. I was expecting to be very similar to WS and WHBWH, but I think that especially the second of the album is more different than I expected. The title track is my favourite so far.

It gets pretty cheesy at times, not surprised or bothered by it.

I like the shift at the end, albums don't do that very often the way Anathema did with DS, so it's cool. I like it, though I can see why a mod like Areich would say it fizzles out.
