It's a grower, definitely. I sounds a bit weird alone, but I think it will fit better in the album context.
Yes, especially after hearing the first two parts.

Just found this video of the title track being played acoustically by Danny and Vincent. It's professionally shot and appears official, so I'm assuming it's okay to post it here.

And an interview:

Probably the most interesting thing here is that the last 4 songs, which are more electronic, are older songs, while the first 6 are newly written.

Very cool! Interesting to hear that a few of the tracks are such old songs (going back 17 years  :omg:). Also, love love LOVE the sound of the new song performed acoustically like that.

Samples are here!
https://www.amazon.com/Distant-Satellites-Anathema/dp/B00K5RVTG2/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1399423011&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=anathema+distant+satellites

I was a bit hesitant to listen to these as I was pretty unimpressed with the samples from Weather Systems (but I ended up loving the album). However, I was pretty impressed by these! Seems like there's quite a bit of piano here, which is certainly not a bad thing! Also, it appears that there is no a cappella track, as previously reported.

I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED RIGHT NOW. I'll second you on the prevalence of piano not being a bad thing. They all sound superb, but especially The Lost Song Part I, The Lost Song Part II, Dusk (Darkness is Descending), Ariel, Anathema, Distant Satellites, and Take Shelter.

And yes, Jimmy, I do realize that's most of the album and that they're only 30 second clips. I realize that I shouldn't be getting my hopes up! But the electronic influences at the end of the album are apparent, and I like what I hear! Please, Jimmy, please join us in blind optimism! :caffeine:

This sounds pretty interesting. Definitely more dark and empty-sounding than the previous two albums. Judging from those samples, I think the title "Distant Satellites" fits the mood of the music perfectly.

The electronics are done really well I think. Samples sound very interesting.. there's a bit of Weather Systems in there but some tracks are very different to that as well.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Kind of just reiterating what Buddyhunter said, but from the sound of it this album is going to be a lot more spacious, if that makes sense. I expect that will be the most noticeable difference compared to WHBWH and WS, given their more full-sounding production. Coupled with the slightly darker tone, I'm psyched for this album. At the same time, I don't expect it to be as dark lyrically as old Anathema, which is also nice.

This is what someone on last.fm, who presumably has a promo copy of the album, said about the samples:

"Don't judge the songs on these short samples. They're basically all from the first quarter of the songs that need time to really develop and take off towards the middle/end. Especially the title track gets much harder than the sample might let expect you."

Interesting comment that makes me even more excited for the album!

Well some of those samples make me want to have this album right now. Not sure about the electronic bits though, I need to listen to the whole songs before judging.

Listened to The Samples and I'm loving the vibes they're giving me. I think this may well surpass WS for me.

The only track that isn't making a very good impression in the samples, for me, is You're Not Alone.

Same.

I'm most excited about Ariel, Dusk (Dark is Descending), Distant Satellites, and Take Shelter.

I am interested in seeing where the last 30 seconds of You're Not Alone goes, but the first part definitely feels a touch too repetitive.

Not passing judgement on the album but the samples did not impress and definitely sounded very similar to the sound of the last two albums. Even the instruments sound similar if not the same.

The Lost Song Parts 1 and 3 sound like they suck. The rest of the album sounds pretty cool though.

Its also pretty interesting that there is a self-titled song on this album.

I'm curious to know what makes you think that. I could maybe understand you saying that they all suck, but picking those two out... They don't sound significantly different than the rest of the album, at least not to my ears, so I'm a little puzzled.

Just listening to the clip for Ariel got me thinking. Lee Douglas has a great voice, but I've always felt that she goes a bit overboard on the vibrato. I think it works well with the kind of music Anathema puts out, for the most part, but it still makes me chuckle a little at times.

I agree. The only time her vibrato has really bothered though me is on Untouchable Part Two from Universal, where she really went overboard.

I agree. It sounds way overboard on that song. Wouldve been awesome if she didn't go overboat

In the studio I think her voice is perfect for Anathema. Live, I agree she puts a little too much vibrato, but only slightly.

I'd never noticed it on studio albums, or when I saw them live - but it was definitely a little offputting on Universal. She still sounds amazing though  :tup
