I like the fact that the cover feels Anathema-ish (similar to Universal) but still feels fresh and new. Another bright and blue cover would have felt kinda dull, and hopefully the black cover means a return to a slightly darker sound. I miss old Anathema, and hopefully they can combine the great new stuff with the great old stuff.

Distant Satellites fits the description given on how the album sounds. I like it.

Distant Satellites is definitely a great album title, and if that is the cover art I'm not disappointed. It's definitely going to be an interesting album.

Quote
ANATHEMA return in June with 'distant satellites', their brand new studio album.

Due to be released on 9th June via Kscope, 'distant satellites' is the highly anticipated follow up to 2012’s Weather Systems, recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo, with producer Christer-André Cederberg.

The beautifully ethereal artwork was created by Korean new media artist Sang Jun Too and based around his Distant Light Installation

The band released a statement on their new album:

Distant satellites is the culmination of everything ANATHEMA been working up to so far in our musical path. It contains almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that it is possible to have.

There is beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band have previously only hinted at. All built on the song writing chemistry of Daniel, John and Vincent ~ and the haunting voice of Lee Douglas.

Produced and mixed once again by our very own Christer-André Cederberg (Weather Systems, Universal) and with some songs also mixed by the unassailable Steven Wilson, It's a special and unique release for the band.

ANATHEMA hopes the fans get as much joy from listening to and feeling the music as we did in creating it.

Pretty underwhelming artwork. As always the band members come off as really pretentious when they talk about their music as well. Hopefully it will be a decent album though.

It's only really pretentious if the music isn't actually a culmination of everything they've been working up to so far in their musical path and contain almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that is possible to have.

I have faith that it will  :D

They seem like nice people, but everything they say in press releases just reek of pretentiousness. It's gotten to the point where it actually annoys me, so I try to just ignore whatever they say and just listen to the music. It usually works better that way.  :P

Fair enough, Jimmy, fair enough.

I do like the darkness, and simplicity, of the cover art  :azn:

I would say the artwork is a poor man's A Natural Disaster. If the artwork had any other band name attached to it rather than Anathema (like if it was a totally unknown band), I doubt anyone would think it's good.

To each his own, but I like it.

I don't agree with this. Sometimes knowing what a band is already like can sway your opinion on their future output. Using DT as an example, based on their previous album artworks at the time, the SC and BCSL album covers were bad in my opinion. But that's because I also had some expectations of what I was hoping for.

Actually, if that were a black metal cover, or something with a band logo that was spikes and shit, I'd say it'd probably look better. It doesn't look bad at all, but the Font and placement of the band name and album title is kind of odd.

I'm still not crazy about the title, but the cover looks amazing! The last few album covers have been blue, so this is a nice departure.

It looks like a late 90's atmospheric black metal cover tbh, but I like it too.

The cover doesn't really do anything for me, but that doesn't matter. Very excited about new music from them! Weather Systems is my favourite ever album.

Reminds me of a mix between Judgement and A Natural Disaster. I like it, don't see what all the fuss is about. It's only a cover anyway.

They mentioned Steven Wilson mixing some of the songs. I wonder if there'll be a version that has a 5.1 mix of it done by SW.

In the interview Seneca posted in this thread Vinnie said there'll be a making-of documentary, so maybe the DVD will include a 5.1 mix as well.

Wikipedia has a track list up, but the only other places I can find it are on a few different blogs, so I'm not sure if it's actually real.
