Pleased to hear everyone enjoyed it. I didn't think it was all that great, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I love the band's style and I think they're one of the most sympathetic bands around. I have some fond memories of being blown away (absolutely blown the f**k away - my brother as well, and he saw them for the first time that night) by A Simple Mistake and Universal live during a gig in Enschede (Atak), in front of merely 200 people. The Paradiso gig was fine as well, albeit cracks were starting to show here and there. This gig had more of them, too many. I don't want to ruin those great memories, so I'm going to give Anathema a rest for a while.

They're becoming a bigger band now, playing larger shows, but I can feel an awkwardness to it. I can't describe it. I'm not gonna say anything more about it because this band deserves all the support they can get and I don't want to badmouth them in any way.

Okay..err....just this: LOSE THE 'ORION' COVER. WTF? Weirdest placement of a track ever in a live show.

Orion was very misplaced indeed and I too agree on them being better in a smaller environment as well. I was especially bummed by failing equipment during A Simple Mistake (my favourite Anathema song) and I also wasn't too keen on Danny's constant scream for attention. Just let me enjoy the music without me having to shout or clap my hands every two minutes.

Danny was indeed quite the attention whore. Although I was thinking that might have been because they were filming it, since I don't recall it being this bad the last time I saw them.

It didn't disturb me that much though, had a great evening.

Indeed, first time Danny's guitar signal failed I thought: Just stop the song, fix it, and continue the show. Sometimes such things can be OK like in Opeth's RAH DVD, but this was just painful.

Well, I ended up just picking up Weather Systems because it was the cheapest on Amazon. Liking what I hear so far, the first couple tracks hit it off well enough to peak my interest. I'll definitely be picking up more albums.

Congrats indeed! I thought they would continue without a full-time keyboardist, but it'll be interesting to see how the next album turns out - his involvement will probably shake things up a bit.

Good for you, welcome to the club, I also just discovered this gem. I was so impressed by Untouchable that I'm purchasing their entire catalog now, that single opener won me over.

You're aware that their early works are quite a lot different from the new album, right? I think the doom metal albums are pretty good, but if you've bought them based on Untouchable, the style of those releases might come as a shock! :lol

Haha, ya, I am aware. I haven't picked those album's up yet, but I still plan too. I have a fairly diverse musical taste and I've yet to get into Doom metal so this seems like a good shot to try. I have roughly half their album's now, hopefully the rest in another month or so.

I have the most amazing story. I was yesterday in a record store, and I came across Weather Systems and I *loved* the cover and say a Steven Wilson sticker so I said...what the heck, and I  bought it. I had never heard of Anathema before in my life, and this is one of the best things that could've happened to me in music right now. Absolutely magical.

I have been aware of Anathema since Eternity. I have even heard them in passing at different times. For whatever reason, I have never paid them a whole hell of a lot of attention, despite thinking they were pretty good. It was all the adulation Weather Systems was getting that really piqued my interest so I took a chance. I am LOVING this album!!! I lucked out and came across Hindsight yesterday for $4 and grabbed it too...

Obsession in full effect...  :hefdaddy

The way Gathering slowly builds up and then segues right into Lightning Song is like one of my favorite things ever. There's an obvious contrast yet relationship between the songs too, and that helps pair them together as well. :heart

I think the two biggest problems with Weather Sytems for me is that I had skyhigh expectations (which is partly my own fault) and the fact that it was preceded by WHBWH.
It's actually a pretty fantastic album, but I think WHBWH is slightly better. It was also more "fresh" when it came out, but Anathema have been doing this sound for a bit now (I'll include Falling Deeper), so WS wasn't as fresh or new. But still very good.

I kinda hope for a change on the next album though. Something different.
