This was the crowd pic of our amazing night in Bulgaria, my first official live recording. Amazing orchestra, amazing scenery, fireworks, what a night. Wish all my closest and loved ones where here to witness. Luckily, there's a Dvd/ Blu-Ray edition coming out soon. Thanks for all your support and thanks to Anathema for putting up with my shit. Peace!

Also to point out, the venue is probably 80-90% full, maybe a bit unfortunate that the concert coincided with the  104th anniversary of the Bulgarian Declaration of Independence.  That's what the fireworks were for :).

I might be buying this. I read that the release date is set for 2013. Does anyone have more accurate insights on this?

As I expected, the release date is set for "Early" 2013.

For those who want to see the setlist for that night.

With Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra:
Untouchable 1
Untouchable 2
Thin Air
Dreaming Light
Lightning Song
Storm Before the Calm
Everything
A Simple Mistake
The Beginning and the End
Universal
Closer
A Natural Disaster
Deep
One Last Goodbye
Flying
Fragile Dreams

Without Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra:

Panic
Emotional Winter
Internal Landscapes
Fragile Dreams (Hindsight Version)
Keep on turning, Keep on turning, Turning around, Spinning around, round, round, round, round, round, round, round, round...

What's the deal with Fragile Dreams 2 times? I get it that they are two different versions (both are great), but to me that is a slot they could have played something else. I kinda have the same issue with Blackfield's Live in New York (where they play Once twice) because the album itself is flawless, but instead of repeating a song they could have played something else IMO.

Still, setlist looks great. I'm so glad they played Emotional Winter (a top3 Anathema song for me), and Universal and Thin Air are probably the other 2 songs in my top3 Anathema, so really awesome.

I'm listening to the new album and loving it so much. It's been more than a year since I've been so excited about driving for the sole purpose of listening to music. I might give it a spin tomorrow and go for a drive through the Everglades. Actually, for a while, I thought I was losing my interest in music in general until this one popped up.

The setlist looks good - songs from the latest 2 albums, Deep and Emotional Winter are finally getting a DVD release! :tup I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of Falling Deeper stuff, considering that they had an orchestra with them and could've played some of those versions, or at least Kingdom, which they played at the Union Chapel last year. Some Alternative 4 songs (other than Fragile Dreams) would've been nice as well.

Just listened to Weather Systems for the first time. Damn, it's beautiful. It's the only thing from Anathema I've heard so far. I hear great things about WHBWH  :tup

They're both good, but the more you dwell into their back catalogue, it gets more darker. A good start is Alternate 4, a nice balance of the old and whats to be.

Anathema is what I consider a true progressive band. They went from doom to Folk... Can't get more prog than them.

I don't really think there's anything Folk about their sound but I dunno. To be honest I don't think the biggest change they've done is musically (if you compare Alternative 4 or Judgement with WS/WHBWH) but more the attitude/atmosphere, I'd say the old albums are something between Progressive and Alternative Rock, and the same goes for the new albums, but they are still very different, mostly because now it's all positive and "life is good", meanwhile earlier everything was negative and "life is sad". :P

I've recently listened to Hindsight for the first time. Is it a sort of compilation of rearranged songs, much like 1X:5 by Pain Of Salvation? (I can't remember the exact day)

I don't know that PoS album, but Hindsight is indeed (for the most part) a compilation of rearranged songs, the main difference being that there are cnlose to no electric guitars and some strings are added instead. However, they did some changes to the songs (for example that eargasmic tremolo guitar part in Flying) and Unchained (the last song) is completely new.

Overall, yeah definitely. There was a strong folk vibe on Falling Deeper though, more so than rock in my opinion.

I think Falling Deeper sounds more cinematic/orchestral than folky - the early acoustic songs like Everwake, Alone and the one with French lyrics maybe sound a bit like folk due to the acoustic setting, but apart from those, Anathema have never sounded like folk IMO. "Atmospheric rock" is a good description of the post-doom metal stuff.

Well anything involving a flute and/or a fiddle is almost instantly construed as being 'Folk', nowadays. For lack of better coinage, I guess...

I checked my list and it's actually number 18 for me right now.
For those interested in what I have ranked higher, here's how it looks right now:

Between the Buried and Me - Parallax II: Future Sequence
Swans - The Seer
Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind
Ancestors - In Dreams and Time
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
North Atlantic Oscillation - Fog Electric
Periphery - Periphery II: This Time It's Personal
Kimbra - Vows (US Version)
Submotion Orchestra - Fragments
Gazpacho - March of Ghosts
The Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania
Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin - Instrumental Tourist
The Tallest Man on Earth - There's No Leaving Now
Gregory and the Hawk - Come, Now
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes
Ulver - Childhood's End
Alcest - Les Voyages De L'Âme
Anathema - Weather Systems

Weather Systems is already one of my favourite albums, but I probably rank it behind Valtari, 'Allelujah, and Portal of I so far.

Yes. I just recently listened to WS again and while a very good album overall, it doesn't make my top 5 this year. Some of the songs are 10/10, but Sunlight still feels like a filler, TSBTC is like 2 songs glued together and many songs rely just on a few themes, which gives the album a kind of samey and repetitive feeling at times. What WS is missing is something more hard-edged like Summernight Horizon and the second half of A Simple Mistake on WHBWH.

I see where you're coming from. Personally I'm not a big fan of The Lost Child, but the rest of the album is absolutely stellar IMO. I've actually placed it above WHBWH...didn't think I was going to do that at first.

New Alcest, Les Discrets, Ne Obliviscaris, Dream Theater, A Forest of Stars, Steven Wilson are up there also.

I think Weather Systems is great, but a lesser version of WHBWH.
The two Untouchables are amazing (and the best songs on the album), after that it goes down a little bit.
Sunlight is a decent song but doesn't do much for me, The Storm Before the Calm doesn't feel like one song, it feels like two songs they just put together, god knows why. I like the first part, and I like the second part, but I don't feel like they belong together.
Internal Landscapes starts off pretty good and has potential, but I'm slightly disappointed that it doesn't lead to something, it just feels like the song goes on, and eventually ends. I was kinda hoping for something more.

But the Untouchable songs alone makes it a top25 album this year so far for me. Had the rest been of the same quality the album would be higher, take those two songs away and it would be much lower.
