I don't care much for Serenades, but I think The Silent Enigma is one of their best. It's the album where Vincent starts singing as well.

I can't get into the death doom stuff because of the semi-growled vocals. I didn't mean to imply that others shouldn't check out those albums though. I really gotta stop posting here at 4:00 AM, LOL.

I'm almost surprised sometimes when people don't know Anathema. I don't mean that in a negative or condescending way, but a lot of people here loves PT for example, and I think Anathema is a band that most PT-fans would be able to enjoy.
Still, great to see more love!  :hat

Anathema planning to make MORE music?  :o

Furthermore, plans are being put in place to get back together with our invaluable and incredible musical partner, Christer Andre Cedeberg, to make more music, and the sounds being made are that we might plan something a little harder edged..

Just listened to it for the first time and I already think it's my favorite Anathema album. Will probably make my top 10 this year

To be fair, half of Weather Systems consists of left over stuff from WHBWH. And we have the 7 years gap between AND and WHBWH. Naturally, the band must be itching to write stuff.  :metal

What do you guys think the chances of Anathema doing a small U.S Tour with-in the next year are?

I saw that they are touring Europe until October, but I really hope they get over here sometime in 2013. Fingers Crossed.

They wrote loads of songs in the period between AND and WHBWH and some of them are still unreleased - one song, No One is Free, is on Youtube; maybe some of the unreleased stuff will end up on the next release. The mention about harder edge made me interested since Weather Systems is a bit too repetitive at times IMO and I'd like something more energetic.

I doubt it. :( I saw them opening for Blackfield last year, but it was only Daniel and Vincent that could make it over (still the best opener I've ever seen). Maybe if another band picks them up as an opener, but I don't think they will be able to do a headlining tour over in the states anytime soon.

The story of i came to know anathema is kinda weird.
2 years ago i told my friend i dont really like children of bodom. he told me "dude, just listen to this song!" and he downloaded the song "angelica" to my phone through bluetooth. i listened to it and loved it, but i couldnt belive it was cob. the song got stuck in my head, and i searched it and searched it on the net and than i discovered thats its actually a song by some band called "anathema". after that i checked some other stuffs by them.

im impressed from weather systems. very great album.
I love beautiful things.

OK, so lately I've been trying to stretch out a bit with the music I check out.  I am currently on my first spin of "Weather Systems" and my reaction is:

Now, I haven't read the entire thread, but I will go back and review it.....I've heard they used to be a doom metal band?

This music is....beautiful, haunting, moving, uplifting, soaring, introspective.....moody.

How does a doom metal band evolve into...this?  Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing it at all.  The writing is inspired, even if, from a stylistic standpoint, it's not necessarily in my wheelhouse.  I don't know how often I will listen to it, but wow, the use of dynamics here is amazing.   :hefdaddy

I can honestly say that I don't have anything like this in my CD collection.

So is "We're Here Because We're Here" in a similar vein to this?

It's in a similar vein with noticeable differences. Both WS and WHBWH are their most positive and uplifting albums, whereas their previous efforts are darker. If you like Weather Systems, you'll probably like WHBWH.

Their first 2 albums were doom/gothic metal, and from then on they took a more alternative rock approach.

How does a doom metal band evolve into...this?

If you listen to their albums going backwards (or forwards I suppose) it's actually a pretty gradual transition that makes a ton of sense.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I read along to the lyrics of The Lost Child the other day while blasting the music... one of the most powerful songs on the record imo.

Definitely AOTY for me at this point.
