I tend to change avatars after X amount of months to have something fresh, but I must admit that several people have pointed out their appreciation for that Portman-avatar.  :)

senecadawg2

Yes, I prefer it to the current one.

I used to search all over the place for your posts so that I could have something to look at whilst fapping.

Silver Tears

You know you can just search on google to help you out with that  :P

There are also quite a few sites that makes it easier to fap. Just ask Tahlia here, she has loads of experience on the subject.  ;)

Silver Tears

Nah I don't need to use sites myself, I just flick through your photos on facebook jimmybob  :-*

Aww. Love you too.  :heart

I know this isn't the right place to ask you about this, but the mood feels just right..... What is it about Oceansize that turns you on so much?

Silver Tears

Yayayayay!

I'll try arrange a night with Natalie Portman for you but that may be tricky and I would probably end up having her for myself. She's damn hawt.

Well, many reasons I guess. Mainly I think they combine different elements from genres that I hold very dear, like Post-Rock, Art-Rock, Progressive Rock, and they make something awesome out of it. Before I discovered them, PT used to be my number one band, and I guess the big difference between Oceansize and PT is that Oceansize are perhaps a bit more about soundscapes, a more "post-rock" influence, and seeing as it's one of my favorite genres I think it works very well with the otherwise Progressive sound. Plus, their entire catalogue is just breathtaking. They haven't made a single song that I don't like, and while the band has disbanded now, I haven't come across another band with such high "lowpoints".  :hat

Tahlia @ As long as I can watch, and possibly join in on you and Portman going at it, your suggestion might not be such a bad idea.  ;)

Tyrias

Ranking just WHBWH because I haven't listened to Weather systems enough to really form an opinion.

Damn it, this is impossible. Everytime I choose one song as number one, at least 5 others come to my mind that would be equally deserving of number 1.

Another try:
1. Hindsight (only because I have some very fond memories of my last holidays attached to that song: one of the most beautiful sunsets I have witnessed in my life on the beach)
2. Universal (again, because of memories: That song really clicked for me when I listened to it on top of a Volcano on  La Reunion. I had just barely been fast enough to still get a good view of the whole crater. Clouds on all sides, about on the same height as I was. And then the singing starts: "Above the clouds we flew to heaven...". Yeah, it was pretty epic.)
3.Summer Night Horizon (just a really great tune)
4. A Simple Mistake (another memory from the same holiday, driving in the dark...)
5.Get Off, Get Out
6. Thin Air
7. Everything
8. Dreaming Light
9. Angels Walk Among Us
10. Presence

I just realised how much I really love this album... When the last song is still 8/10 and all the others are 9/10 or higher it's a really great album.. :hefdaddy

Silver Tears

For that description of Oceansize, I will allow you to join.

How often do these dudes get compared to Dredg? I've been listening to the new album and it seems very similar.

Never. I've never heard any similarities myself.  :P

Yeah, I really don't see much how they compare tbh.

TheVoxyn

Untouchable is so amazing.

73109

Both the bands have a somewhat proggy, grandiose feel to them. Like, both untouchables sound similar to songs like Catch Without Arms, The Canyon Behind Her, etc.

TheVoxyn

I don't see the similiarity either.

MondayMorningLunatic

Anathema have never, and hopefully will never, produce anything as bad as Chuckles And Mr. Squeezy.

Zantera

I could kinda see a comparison to Porcupine Tree (though even then it's a bit of a stretch), but not Dredg.
As for Weather Systems, it drops in quality after the first two songs for me. The rest is still great, but not as good as Untouchable.

They have that name for a reason  :)
Internal Landscapes is the only song that gets close to the untouchables for me.

Zantera

Internal Landscapes is great, but I'm sorta expecting more from it. I don't know, I was expecting a really nice climax, but for me the song never really took off. If I would compare it to Hindsight (for logical reasons), I feel like Hindsight is a better closer, and I think it's a better song. Internal Landscapes is still a pretty beautiful song though.

So, where should I go from here?

HarlequinForest

Probably going to be AotY for me.  My ranking:

Untouchable, Part 1
Untouchable, Part 2
Lightning Song
Sunlight
The Lost Child
Internal Landscapes
The Storm Before the Calm
The Gathering of the Clouds
The Beginning of the End

WHBWH is akin, as is Falling Deeper (though in a different way). i'd also say A Fine Day to Exit has a similar approach. if you like the weird semi-electronic stuff on "The Storm Before the Calm", try A Natural Disaster for more. for more of the balls-out rock, try Judgement. for the dark and morose side, Alternative 4. and for metal-that-isn't-death-metal, Eternity is kind of a sadder Judgement, and The Silent Enigma is one of the best doom metal albums ever made (indebted to Metallica though it is).

and for what it's worth, i see your dredg comparison :P

ColdFireYYZ

Ranking:
1. Lightening Song
2. Untouchable, Part 1
3. Internal Landscapes
4. The Gathering of the Clouds
5. Sunlight
6. The Storm Before The Calm
7. Untouchable, Part 2
8. The Beginning and the End
9. The Lost Child

Not sure I get the Dredg comparison. Then again, the only Dredg album I've listened to all the way through was El Cielo

skydivingninja

So I got Weather Systems today.  It has some really amazing songs and some songs that are just okay.  I guess I'd put it on par with WHBWH.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I just listened to it today, and there are some really incredible highs on the album, but some parts are just so-so. Overall I do think its a great album and I'll probably like it better on repeated listens.

Finally got around to listening to Weather Systems, and it will probably take a while longer, but as of right now....

MondayMorningLunatic

Anathema is rapidly becoming my favorite band. Anyone who hasn't checked out their older material needs to do so. I'm not necessarily talking about the death doom stuff (which I don't care for) but albums like Eternity, Alternative 4 and Judgment. They're as good as the recent ones in my opinion. Even though I love Weather Systems, the aspect that I don't like is that it's very safe and saccharine. Anyone notice how a few of the songs use similar formulas? It's still my AOTY (so far), but I wish they'd return to making music that's a little more experimental.

Dark Castle

Still check out the death doom stuff.  It's pretty radular too.
