Haven't heard it yet. WHBWH was kinda bland though, so I can't say I'm terribly interested.

two things:

The best album of 2010 is not bland

and the new album is 9804375984% different

The new album is alright.  I definitely like the songs on it much better than in their original forms (which I pretty much hate) and the arrangements are really cool but the actually songs as far as writing are just weak.  Hindsight was a lovely way to revisit previous songs and it was much better simply because the songs they were rearranging were much stronger songs.

That's what I think, at least.

WHBWH is a good enough album, but it hasn't aged well.  It sounds too much like Porcupine Tree and not enough like Anathema.

I don't find WHBWH bland at all; it has some of their strongest and most mature writing. A Natural Disaster, on the other hand, isn't that great.

This. It was my favorite album from 2010 but now I never find myself listening to it nowadays.

WHBWH is still fantastic, I don't really listen to it much anymore, but the same goes for the rest of Anathema as well.
I don't know, it just comes in waves for me, one week I might listen to a band and reach 150 plays, then not listen to them again for 6 months, it's all random. :P

This new album is pure gold.

I would quite happily say both of their last 2 albums are better than PT's The Incident. And i'm a big PT fan.

I'll agree with that.
Anathema has been getting better and better with every release (not like I actually rank them in that order, but you get my drift), Falling Deeper is just so amazing.
This just shows what a fantastic band they are, being able to take 9 songs from the old days, and make new versions that sound as amazing as these ones do!

Ok fuck this, another thread I'm avoiding until release. This rule that it's allowed as long as it's not DT is dumb.

Yes because I have to avoid threads of my favourite bands because of a fucking leak, which means the thread is dominated by the new album discussion for a few days, and any posts about older albums or other stuff get ignored. And when the album is actually released most people have already lost interest in discussing it by then.

To be honest, I really don't think we have spoiled the album anything here. :P
Most of the discussion about it has been about how good it is, and saying that "the new versions of old songs are interesting" can't be considered a spoiler, because we knew this 6 months ago, that Falling Deeper would be Hindsight 2.0.

First review of the new album on sputnik. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/45456/Anathema-Falling-Deeper/

Total bollocks.

This albums is just as good as their other exceptional albums.

In fact, i'm absolutely loving it.

I had some fears about this album (haven't heard it yet) and that review seems to just confirm them, unfortunately. On the other hand, some of the original versions drag on so maybe cutting down the length is good for some of them. But taking 1 or 2 melodies from and playing them on piano and orchestra doesn't sound like a true remake to me... I still hope I'll like this album.

I prefer Falling Deeper over Hindsight to be honest, and that says a lot seeing as Hindsight was brilliant.

They are my favorite band now, after discovering them in 2010. Alternative 4 is my favorite album of theirs, although all the subsequent albums are excellent. I've heard they were a doom metal band before, talk about a change for the good!  :) I really dig their style, it is somber and dark but kinda uplifting at times. I think I'll get Falling Down on Amazon MP3 store since I don't want to buy physical CDs anymore.

I'm trying to be skeptical because of the ZOMFG IS NEW feeling I have now, so I'm not going to extend my opinion until the album ages on me....

The songs are beautiful. Like, REALLY. They seem to be more beautiful every album they make. The only problem with this album for me is that it feels too short, and J'ai Fait Une Promesse... I had a problem with the vocals of the song (Or Lack thereof). Songs could be longer IMO.

Also, We the Gods made me eargasm. Hadn't done that since I heard Dreaming Light for the first time.

Agree that the album could have been longer, but I still love it as it is.
