Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

That sounded really beautiful. Hindsight is pretty cool and I'm still getting into WHBWH, gorgeous music overall.

Alright, more listens have been given to WHBWH and I absolutely love it. Awesome atmosphere, really beautiful music, and can I just say Dreaming Light is one of the best songs, ever?

I first heard this song today and I was incredibly mindblown. Is there anything from them along those lines, I'm looking for some specific tunes, not an album. I need some songs to sink into their beautiful melancholic music and get into them.

Sounds promising! :tup However, I'm disappointed at the track lengths, some songs are about half shorter than the originals!

Angels Walk Among Us is another song from that same album that I think is just absolutely beautiful. Seriously just listen to that whole album, We're here because we're here. It has a lot of songs that are beautiful and uplifting, and I don't think you'll find much stuff like it in their previous albums (Atleast from the ones I've heard)

Some emotional and beautiful Anathema tunes I can recommend:
Angelica
Inner Silence
One Last Goodbye
Temporary Peace
Flying

I picked one from each album without grunts. Those aren't similar to Dreaming Light but definitely worth listening.

I wouldn't say that The Silent Enigma has grunts, after all it is Vinny singing.
The Silent Enigma as a whole is a masterpiece album, the only one I don't like that much would be Serenades, the rest of the discography is gold.

Maybe, but the vocals are much more clean then they are grunt-style throughout the album at least.

His vocals on TSE aren't as harsh as Darren's were on Serenades and Crestfallen, but I would definitely count them as growls/screams.

I'd say the vocals are more raw and there are a few words in most of the songs that he almost screams out in agony, but to even compare it to growl is kinda far fetched IMO.
I mean, with a lot of growl-vocals, you almost need to read the lyrics in order to "aha, that's what he was singing", but Vinny's vocals on TSE are clear at pretty much all times, It's very easy to hear what he is singing.

Also, we haven't done this in a few pages... album-rankings:

1. We're Here Because We're Here
2. Judgement
3. The Silent Enigma
4. A Natural Disaster
5. A Fine Day to Exit
6. Alternative 4
7. Eternity
-----
8. Serenades

i wouldn't call them "grunts" either. he yells some. no growling, no real screaming, just agonized yelling. you know — pain! like proggy doom metal should have all over the vocals!

I dont know about this band.  Judgement and AND just always leaves me in a funk after I listen to them.

I think there should be a disclaimer on those albums :) Of course WH reverses this course, so at least Anathema prvides an antidote.

So, obviously the greatest part of We're Here Because We're Here is when the man keeps on repeating "life is a turtle" :neverusethis:

I totally love that song!
Funny enough, my least favorite songs on the album would be Everything and Dreaming Light, but everyone else seem to have such a hard-on for the latter, though I still think it's a good song.

Universal, Thin Air, Hindsight, Summernight Horizon... this band should make new material!
(Though I'm obviously really psyched for Falling Deeper)

I just can't stand that guy. I really wish he wasn't there, because in my opinion he sticks out like a sore thumb on what would otherwise be a flawless record.

I really like his voice, it sounds very nice. And somehow what he says feels really... convincing to me even though I'm not exactly a big optimist.

But why did you have to say that? I'll hear this every time now. :lol

Also... listened to Judgement again yesterday, I had only listened to it twice or so before (mistake, I know...). Amazing album... Deep, Parisienne Moonlight and Anyone, Anywhere are my favourites this far.

That montage from Falling Deeper sounds really amazing!

So I'd been a bit of a fan of Anathema before, but was never blown away by their stuff (I really liked Judgement and rather liked a couple of albums I'd heard). But a couple of weeks ago I finally got round to hearing WHBWH, and it's just such an amazing album, on a whole different level!

Of course, I checked it out on Spotify, but now the album has been taken off because Kscope are owned by Snapper Music who seem to have followed Century Media's lead and taken most of their music off Spotify. I was thinking of buying myself a copy before, but now out of principal I'm not sure I'll bother. Definitely excited about the new album though!

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

Why wouldn't you buy it?
It is totally worth it!  :tup

I'm quite the Anathema-collector myself, the only "official" releases I can think of that I still need would be: Crestfallen EP, Resonance (1 and 2) and A Moment in Time (DVD).

Why wouldn't you buy it?

Because retarded record labels are taking their stuff off Spotify. I pay for Spotify premium and was all ready to go and buy the album anyway because I liked it so much, whereas now I feel less inclined to do so and give all my money to the label. I'd much rather go and see them live (which I did at HV and will do again when they next play) and give THEM my money.

Ah.
Seeing as I'm one of those who hates Spotify, what it stands for and this whole mp3-generation, it's kinda hard for me to understand that.
For me it's kinda obvious to buy albums by artists I love, so yeah... we could really discuss this for hours, and I'd still be all  ??? about it.  :lol

On another note, it would totally be worth the money though.
WHBWH has some of their best artwork (imo), and I really enjoyed looking through it when I first heard the album.
You said that WHBWH renewed your interest in the band, but have you since then tried any of the older albums again, maybe they'll click more now? :)

To not derail this thread completely, was it 5th September for Falling Deeper?
Gotta order it soon.  :)
