Haven't picked up Judgement :/ I'm still reeling at We're Here Because We're Here.  Has now easily made it into my top 10 albums of all time.  Where the fuck have I been?!  What an incredible band.  :hefdaddy

IMO, Judgement is just a bit better than WHBWH, but yeah, both albums are a-fucking-mazing and god tier. Actually, all albums by Anathema are.

Anathema are fantastic, so great to see some love for them.
I would say that I hold WHBWH and Judgement fairly equal, I find WHBWH to have slightly higher highs (Universal is my favorite song by them), but Judgement might be slightly better throughout.
I wouldn't care to rank them, but all albums except for Serenades are really great.  ;)

Naw girl, I'm still excited for this release. It's my own fault for getting my hopes up for new material, anyway, but that's what I was hoping for. I meant lame in a general sense, not lame as in, "Oh, lame, Anathema."

I'm sure I'll be fapping listening to this album extensively.

Well, they did promise that we won't have to wait 50 years again for another -new- album. Here's hoping for 2012!

Danny and Vincent had talked about doing this kind of album in some interviews, so I'm not surprised. But I'm definitely happy! :metal I think Danny also mentioned Sleep in Sanity and We, the Gods among songs getting reworked. Maybe the people hating Serenades can start liking those songs now! :lol Everwake with Anneke... :heart

I've been doing some research into them seeing as they are opening some shows.

I found out they come from my city which really surprised me and they have been around for ages! I hope they have a word with DT about getting to play there!

Anyone recommend me a starting point for them?

Get Judgement and We're Here Because We're Here first and Alternative 4 after those.

EDIT: My personal album ranking (the bottom 4 changes all the time):

Alternative 4
Judgement
We're Here Because We're Here
The Silent Enigma
Eternity
A Fine Day to Exit
Serenades
A Natural Disaster

Yep, I find AND very inconsistent. There are some great songs like Are You There, Pulled Under... and Flying, but the fillers that drag on too long (Closer, Violence) bring the album down IMO. But as I said, the ranking changes often, so maybe tomorrow I'll prefer AND to Serenades, or AFDTE is at the bottom.

I think Violence should've ended at the 5-minute mark, the last 5 minutes of it aren't interesting. And Closer is a bit repetitve and they could've used less vocoder in it.

I saw Anathema live last friday together with my brother. I won tickets to the show, otherwise I wouldn't have gone. I'm a casual fan, so. We got stuck in traffic so we were running very late and missed the opening act. Exactly as the opening guitar motif of 'Thin Air' was played, we walked inside. Thank god we were on time, because Thin Air was insane, and it just kept getting better and better as the songs were played.

Well, it was quite the best freakin' gig ever. All of WHBWH was played (with the exception of Get Out Get Off), to our ultimate delight because we both love that record and we're most familiar with it. The other songs we were hoping for, they played as well (A Natural Disaster, Flying, Balance, Closer etc.) There were times my brother and I were looking at eachother, going: Are these guys for real? How come they're so underrated, damn. There was maybe 250 folks in the room. Ridiculous..

The most epic moments when we just got emotionally destroyed were A Natural Disaster, A Simple Mistake and Universal. The ending of Universal sounds like the end of the world on the record, and to actually see the band get into that epic finale was nothing short of mesmerising. And Lee freakin' rules, her voice is beautiful.

Fan for life, no doubt. Gig was amazing.

Hell yeah. Well, I've seen them twice before, when they were supporting PT. But now it was a headlining gig WITH the new, awesome WHBWH material. Made a huge difference.

Quote
Kscope is pleased to announce Falling Deeper, the new, fully orchestral album from Anathema. Falling Deeper continues where the acclaimed 2008 album Hindsight left off. The album features brand new arrangements of songs and haunting melodies from the band’s earliest days as pioneers of heavy music.

This is an album which will excite old and new Anathema fans equally. A fresh musical and lyrical approach has transformed songs such as Crestfallen, Kingdom, Sunset Of Age and Everwake, which features the incredible voice of Anneke van Giersbergen.

The record has been produced by Daniel Cavanagh and was recorded and mixed by Andrea Wright at the legendary Parr St Studios, Liverpool (where the likes of Elbow, Coldplay and Echo and the Bunnymen have also recorded albums). The orchestral arrangements are from Dave Stewart who worked so successfully with Anathema on We’re Here Because We’re Here.

Released in 2010, We're Here Because We're Here was awarded Classic Rock’s Prog Album of the Year as well as a host of other accolades.

Formed in Liverpool in 1990, the band’s sound and musical vision has continually evolved while always remaining true to the band’s original goal of creating forward-thinking, meaningful, passionate, and honest music. With each release they moved beyond the boundaries of limited scenes and pigeon holes, creating a complex and emotive atmospheric sound. The producer of WHBWH, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), has described it as “definitely among the best albums I’ve ever had the pleasure to work on.”

1.   Crestfallen / Sleep In Sanity
2.   Kingdom
3.   They Die
4.   Sunset of Age
5.   Everwake
6.   We The Gods
7.   I Made A Promise
8.   Alone
