I actually do think Judgement is their best album. It's just so perfectly depressing

I agreed before WHBWH

They're equally good in quality(that is, fuckin' amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing), but I like depressing music more than happy music.

Me too, but WHBWH is just that much better.

Alternative 4 is now my favorite album, although Judgement still ranks high for me. I even like Serenades, but I guess it's because I'm used to growls. Darren White, however wasn't a very good vocalist, I'm glad he was fired.

I'd kinda say that Judgement and WHBWH are equally fantastic, I'd say that WHBWH probably has the higher highs (or more highs) with songs like Universal, Hindsight and Thin Air, though Judgement is more solid all the way through.
WHBWH does have a few minor issues for me, Everything's chorus being slightly too repetitive and annoying at times, and even though Dreaming Light is great, I feel like Anathema has made better songs in the same vein as that one.

So yeah, would rank them pretty much equally great.

To me their best album is The Silent Enigma. It has so much emotion, and is one of the best doom-death albums i've ever heard.
I continue to like their work, but i never get this dark feeling and atmosphere of the older albums.

Judgement easily stands out to me as their best album and my favorite. It's just filled with so much darkness and emotion. Evey song is heart-wrenching.

THE FLOW MANG
Well, all of Anathema's albums have god-tier flow(at least the non-doom metal ones), but AND especially.

The Silent Enigma has just as good flow as the following albums though.

Yeah but A4, Judgement, AND and WHBWH are all amazing albums even without the flow.

I would agree for Silent Engima, but A Fine Day to Exit is one of their very best.

Finally got round to getting We're Here Because We're Here.  My first Anathema album and holy mother fucker of God! It is just awesome. No words. Out of all the albums I've got this year new or old, this blows them all out the water.  Wow!

I have officially overplayed WHBWH ;_;

I've never done this to an album before. A song or two, but never an album. I hope that it does not last.

Anathema is my 4th favorite band now. The way they craft their songs and albums is just amazing. Also, I think that A Natural Disaster is officially the loneliest album in existence, and Judgement the saddest. God I love this band.

Get Judgement. It's more "rock", and it's more Pink Floyd influenced than WHBWH.

EDIT: What the ninja said...

You really can't go wrong with any of them, except for Serenades.
I do enjoy Serenades, but it's so different from Anathema, and it's IMO nowhere near as good quality-wise.
Also, Vinny doesn't sing on that album and it has death growls, so yeah..
It does have one of Anathema's best songs though.

Yus. I prefer the version with Vinny on vocals, but still a fantastic song.  :tup
