Been listening to Hindsight [Album] over the last weeks. It might be the best re-recorded songs compilation ever made. EVAR.

I downloaded Judgement from itunes last night.

Holy effin shit. That has to be one of the most depressing, darkest, emotional, melancholy, gloomy albums ever made. Naturally, I loved it.

I ripped my 24bit 5.1 FLACs off the DVD-A just now, and I'm actually listening to the 5.1 mix for the first time ever - Thin Air has stunning vocal work, layers of vocals on all speakers =  :hefdaddy

First anathema album purchased (Judgement). Pretty good.. Deep  :metal and One Last Goodbye  :eek

Going to try and avoid any of their "doom" stuff, but being lazy and not looking through the thread, what's should I purchase next?

You might as well buy "We're Here Because We're Here", their newest record, next. It's their best.

I'd say all of their albums (except for Serenades) are gold.
The Silent Enigma is just as good as Judgement and Alternative 4 imo.

Petter Carlsen (who opened for Anathema last tour) just posted this on facebook:

Epic stuff. My main man and favourite producer Christer André Cederberg is currently in the Studio producing my favorites ANATHEMA - official band page next album or ep or what comes out of it. I can't wait to hear the result!

There were already messages of a new EP around the time WHBWH came out, but this seems to confirm that there is something on the way :).

So this band needs more love. Starting like right now.

EDIT: album rankings

A Natural Disaster
We're Here Because We're Here
Judgement
Alternative 4
A Fine Day to Exit
Eternity

haven't heard the other two
I AM A GUY
You're a fucking stupid bitch.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I really really love A Natural Disaster. Probably more than most other people for some reason. I just love songs like the title track, Flying, and Violence.

AND is a fantastic album. I'd say it and AFDTE are equal with each other in my book. Everything from Eternity and onward is gold.

Oh, nice, I don't think I've ranked Anathema albums recently.

Alternative 4 (first album I ever heard from them, the first song was A4 - instant fan)
Judgement
A Natural Disaster
A Fine Day to Exit
We're Here Because We're Here
Eternity

don't care about the first two.

It was a huge disappointment at first but it grew on me few months after it came out but still it's nowhere near as good as their other material. Doesn't hold over time for me and I barely listen to it again.

I need to listen more so I can rank the albums. At the moment I have The Silent Enigma, Eternity, Judgement and A Fine Day to Exit. I also just ordered Alternative 4 and Serenades. I think my favorite out of the ones that I currently have is Judgement. Everyone should hear The Silent Enigma, some songs drag on too long (I HATE Cerulean Twilight!), but there are some masterpieces too, especially Restless Oblivion, A Dying Wish and the title-track!

Couple of days ago I listened to Judgement again because I forgot how great album is that... Great tracks, I have almost every Anathema album, I have to take some time off to listen to the Guys, because it's definitly worth it.

Alternative 4 is an amazing album indeed. :)
Regret still remains my favorite from that album, even though the title-track is pretty close.
And let's not forget other classics like Lost Control, Fragile Dreams and Empty. (to name a few)

I actually do think Judgement is their best album. It's just so perfectly depressing
