Why is it that politicians on both sides only come together....
« on: October 18, 2011, 02:56:20 PM »
....on issues that we, the voters don't care about?!

First it was steroids in baseball, now it's asking MLB baseball players to give up chewing tobacco.  Why don't they come together about the real issues not something that is a personal choice.  The true answer is this an easy subject to come together for.  A get PR move but the real issues will never get done.  Sad to say

I still cannot, for the life of me, figure out why Congress should be in any way involved in professional sports.

If I'm not mistaken congress has a say when it comes to the MLB as part of the agreement that exempted the MLB from anti-trust laws (that's not to say that they should be bothering with this shit, only that they can).

I could be totally wrong though.

Ugh. As if anti-trust laws weren't bad enough already lol.

Seriously, let the baseball stars chew tobacco if they want.

But politicians in the US do come together on issues, like putting sanctions on Iran, entering wars etc. Oh, and in the house to audit the Fed - the first time in a long time they did something bipartisan that was good.

I don't know as Congress has a codified authority to monkey around with MLB,  but I know they do have the option to yank their anti-trust exemption,  and that certainly seems to empower them.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

So true but it seem their energy is always focused on these things.  They Dem & Reps seem to work together well on frivolous actions like this.  Never on the things that matter to us voters.

It's much easier to agree on something frivolous than something serious.

There's plenty of bipartisan consensus in Congress. It's on shit like this:

Afghanistan
The Patriot Act
Occupation of Iraq
Military Commissions Act
The almost $1 trillion bank bailout
Anything involving Israel

Sounds like when it comes to policy in regards to the M.E., both sides have their fair share of war pigs.

And one could argue that most of those aren't something they should be agreeing on. :lolpalm:

I'm betting that those are all things that their lobbyists can agree with (profit from).
