Orcus' Song Roulette v2.0 - A Music Contest: The Sequel

Orcus' Song Roulette v2.0

Introduction:
Welcome! It's been well over a year since the original roulette and things are going to be quite different this time around. I started writing down a list of themes and scrapped them when I came up with a much more fun idea. The whole concept of any roulette is randomization, which can come in many ways. Most, if not all, song roulettes of past had rounds with themes, some challenging, some at the player's discretion, and was left up to a simple judging. I decided it would be more entertaining to take power away from a player to varying degrees.

This time around my roulette will serve as more of a game show than a judging contest, though I'll still judge songs at the end. The way songs fall into my lap will rely on more guesswork and decision making on the player's part as well as the other players. In essence it's a more interactive thing. I'm hoping it'll make players think a bit more and utilize their fellow players missteps.

Orcus' Song Roulette v2.0: Round 1 - Shotgun
« Reply #1 on: October 17, 2011, 12:25:38 AM »
Round 1: Shotgun
Selection type: Limited Free-for-all

How this round works:
To be honest the name of the round eludes me since I came up with it in a drunken stupor but it loosely ties to the golf term of the same name. So here's how this round is going to pan out:

1) Each player selects an artist that they think might suit my tastes. It'll be wise to select one you have somewhat of a discography of and more importantly one I probably haven't heard of. Do not disclose which artist you have chosen at this time. I will figure it out eventually.

2) Each player then finds the total number of songs they have by that artist. You can probably do this by highlighting the artist in whatever media player you use. Once you have that number, PM me the number.

3) I am going to take the number and put it in a random number generator using a range from 1 to whatever number you've given me. Whatever number spits out I'll PM back to you and you must send me whatever song that number happens to be in whatever order you have that artist's songs in.

As you can see you might not end up sending me that choice cut you wanted. Maybe I'll end up with it. Maybe a B-side. Maybe a joke track. Who knows? So pick your artists wisely.

I saw the message in my inbox and thought WTF? When did I sign up for this? This looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun.

By the way, do you want grooveshark links or do you prefer something else?

Due to the added random nature of the game how do you guys feel about multiple players sending the same artist? I figure I'll let you guys hash this one out. Keep in mind my whole philosophy of the game this time around is not so much to get exposed to new music, though that is a bonus, but to allow players to use their music library, as well as any guessing about my tastes, as a tool against other players. I'll check back tomorrow morning.

I think it would be fine in this case.
