Tripp's Roulette of Terror v. Round 4 the land of impatience
« on: October 16, 2011, 12:06:14 AM »
These are the losers that will be participating in my roulette (I'll send everyone a PM, and if someone says they want to pull out, I'll cross their names off).

- Letters
- Cup
- Jarlaxle
- Lateralex88
- Nekov
- Zanderheart
- Nic35
- mizzl

Okay, so let's get this bitch started. I haven't decided exactly how long this will go for, so I'll think of it as I'm typing.

typing...typing..typing...typing...

Okay, 7 rounds seems like a fair enough amount to complete this. I will base points from 1 - 10, 10 of course, being the highest you can possibly get. You can send me any song by any band you'd like, as long as it falls within these categories:

*Cannot be in my top 18 artists in Last.fm (https://www.last.fm/user/Trippolette/library)

That's about it, really. Just send me something as long as it pertains to the category at hand. I've decided to do a mix of categories, of serious stuff and just some obvious joking stuff. But you'll see as it comes. I won't be listing a new category on the previous one is finished, as I don't want people planning every song until the last category.

So, yeah. Categories:

Set #1: A Song with amazing drum work, where all I'd want to do while listening to the song is focus on the drums.

Set #2: Open. Send me what the fuck ever.

Set #3: ZAP. Send me some ELECTRONIC music. no dubstep (cept' letters)

Set #4: Open round. These seem to produce the best results for "new" music which I enjoy, which is what I was originally going for.

Set #5:

Set #6:

Set #7:

=----=-====================-=------------=-------------=-==-=-=-=-=-===-=-=-=

Current standings:

mizzl: 15 points.
Nekov: 14 points.
zxlkho: 14 points.
Ravenheart: 13 points.
Lateralus88: 13 points.
nic35: 12 points.
Cup: 6 points.

Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

Ok, well here are the results for set #1.

Ravenheart: Death - To Forgive is to Suffer - 8 Points.

- Death is a band I've been recommended to many a time, but I've never actually bothered to give them a listen to. Zander's entry has changed this. In just the first few seconds of the song, I knew it would kick ultimate amounts of ass, and it did. Holy shit. I was expecting heavy technical drum work, which I got, but the song itself was just fucking amazing beyond all words.

Lateralus88: Gojira - Death of Me - 7 Points.

- Same with Death, I've been told to go listen to Gojira several times, but I've never done it. But now, I have, and I've decided that they will probably become one of my top bands, easily. Listening to this song, all I could focus on was Mario's drumming and the vocals. Both of which wrecked shit. Watching Mario drum was intense, watching a man with as much skill as he has, put it to use. I was basically glued to the video for the full 5:42.

Nekov: Paul Gilbert - Jackhammer - 7 Points.

- I had no idea what to expect at first, seeing as the drums basically kept the same beat for a good while. But holy fuck, that drum solo. I was not fucking expecting that at all, and it blew me away. I've never been to keen with Gilbert's work, but I can say that this got me interested. The drummer has real talent, and I enjoyed the entire song.

mizzl: Oceansize - The Frame - 6 Points.

- This song was an incredible listen. I'd never heard Oceansize before, so I didn't really know what to expect. Every member of this band are fucking legends at what they do. The drums, on the other hand were beautiful, to say the least. I loved every minute of this tune, and will probably end up checking out the rest of their stuff.

zxlkho: Brasstronaut - The Ravan - 6 Points.

- I've heard some of Brasstronaut's stuff before, and I enjoyed it, but I never really got into it. This song was really smooth, quiet and calming and I enjoyed it. The drums, like you said, weren't the highlight of the song, but they still kicked major amounts of ass. I honestly couldn't help but focus on them, and I'm glad I did. Also, the vocalist is a fucking God. 'nuf said.

Nic35: Meshuggah - Bleed - 4 Points.

- Okay, I highly disliked the vocals for this song, which honestly made me not want to listen to the rest of it. But, I do agree the drums were pretty fucking awesome, and enjoyable to listen to. The vocals just killed it for me.

Cup: - Jeff Beck - Space Boogie - 3 Points.

- This was a very cool song, the drums were legit repetitive as fuck, and it seemed like a goddamn chore to listen to. This was my least favorite of the pick by far.

========================================================================================

The OP will be edited ASAP with what's required of a song for round 2.

lol long update. sorry for the wait or whatever, im just lazy. ill make sure the next round goes by much more quickly (and hopefully all of the rounds after that)

mizzl: Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Antennas To Heaven - 9 Points.
This song is an absolute fucking masterpiece, and this band is one of the best that the planet has to offer. No fucking joke. I listened to this song several times in a row, it took me about 3 listens to really get it, but once I did, I just didn't stop listening. It was like a goddamn musical journey, and I can now say that this is one of my favorite songs, ever. Thank you so much, mizzl.

zxlkho: Neurosis - Stones From The Sky - 8 Points.
I didn't like this song at first, but it really did grow on me after a good amount of listens. The song is incredible, and just awesome to listen to. I haven't actually bothered to check out the rest of their stuff, like I did with GY!BE but I do plan on doing so. Good choice, again, Ryan. (also, I do have to say, I hated the outro until just a few days ago. And now, for some reason, I LOVE it.)

nic35: Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Moya - 8 points.
I'm not sure if my reasoning will be logical, but I like listening to Moya more than I do Antennas to Heaven. I just think that it was because of the mood I've been in the last few days that made me think ATH was a better song. I dunno, it made me think, literally. It was more of a personal thing. I love Moya, it is a damn cool song to listen to and it kicks all sorts of ass.

Nekov: Riverside - Behind The Eyelids - 7 points.
This song has just about everything I love in music. The vocals were awesome, lyrics were awesome, and the instrumentals were just incredible (especially the bass, goddamn). Very good choice on your part.

Lateralus88: Dimmu Burger (lol) - Spellbound (By The Devil) - 6 Points.
This was quite a song, Alex. I've never been familiar with black metal, but now I have to say that I am one with the kvlt (not really.) I did quite enjoy this though, the musicianship amongst the band members is incredible, and the vocals I also thoroughly enjoyed. Good pick.

Zanderhear: Evergrey - The Master Plan - 5 points.
I loved just about everything about this song, minus the vocals. I just have a severe fucking hatred for power metal vocals, shoot me. Oh well, I liked the song, a lot. Good choice.

Cup: Goldfinger - Mable - 3 points.
Is this seriously what you listen to on a regular basis? What the fuck? I went through my punk phase in 2004. No, just no.

ok, going to edit OP with current standings and like uh post the next theme yeah.
