Do you just read all day or something? :lol Nice!

I work as an aide at a school (assistant librarian actually) and I don't have a whole lot of work to do during those hours

So. Many. Books.

I'm kinda trying to focus my attention on Don DeLilo's White Noise and Slavoj Zizek's In Defense of Lost Causes. The latter is hard to read more than a few pages at a time without simultaneously wanting to die laughing and chuck the book across the room in annoyance.

Curious---how many books do you guys read simultaneously?  I'm usually reading 2 fiction and 1 non-fiction at once, but I am a serious binge reader.

Just finished Saltwater Buddha and might read a Teddy Roosevelt biography next.

Normally 2-4 books at once, right now I'm doing 3.

I'm reading one because I'm lazy and I lack focus.

Sometimes I read two at once. One for home and one at work.

Trying to get through about ten or eleven right now. Eight or so on my Kindle. All of those fiction. I'm also working on two fly-tying books, and two more on the Picts, and another one on the Gaelic language. What's that, sixteen? Fifteen? I'm gearing up to start working on a massive project that begins in ancient Dál Riata early this summer; and that should take me through until spring of next year to finish probably. So I'm taking some time to catch up on my reading, and tie some flies.  :)

Depends. Always at least one. Right now three. I don't really read fiction that often though.

Started Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton today. Never read the book before.

And am I the only one who found The Gunslinger kinda boring? I am a super big Stephen King fan, but, holy shit, that book bored me to tears. It was great for the first forty pages or so, but when Roland meets Jake, it falls apart.

Yeah, The Gunslinger is kinda boring, but The Drawing of the Three and The Waste Lands are so fucking good though!

I love The Gunslinger, probably the second best in the series behind The Waste Lands. Drawing of the Three is next, series was at its best early on.

Drawing of the Three was my favorite though.

A friend of mine is looking for a book that walks you through basic things everyone should know. Something that outlines everyday skills (like how to change a flat, how to cook chicken, how to correctly wipe windows) and everyday knowledge that helps with people-skills (like brief sketches of current events, sports, and movies). Do you guys know any books like this?

Taras Bulba by Nikolai Gogol, about 2/3 of the way through. It's absolutely incredible.

Just finished Mitchell's Black Swan Green. I really liked it a lot. Not a lot of closure at the end, but too much would have made it corny. Life just keeps going and maybe the closure is just accepting that rather than needing a hamfisted explanation at the end.

Moved on to Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything and the first book of ASOIAF spiritual predecessor The Iron King. The former is really great and informative, if not somewhat textbookish at times. The latter is fascinating just by how blunt it is. It certainly breaks every rule of modern writing, and tells way more than it shows. But I like it. You can definitely tell it's where Westeros politics came from, as GRRM readily admits in the forward.

Finished A Dance With Dragons. Definitely was a bit drawn out, but still loved it.

Reading Notes From the Underground and The Alchemy of Stone by Ekaterina Sedia. Really liking both of them so far.

I felt like it was better than AFFC, but that might just be because it actually featured characters I'm interested in.
